The barroom was warmly lit with orange neon signs and overhead lighting. Jazz was playing lightly from the jukebox, and every so often 8 bit sounds would politely emit from the arcade box in the corner. Several sectionals of cozy seating suggested an intimate atmosphere, one that brought back regulars with promises of non-nonchalance and familiar faces. The bar was home, and the patrons family. So it was shocking, but non-chalantly so, that the bar was quite empty tonight. Most everyone had gone home already and some didn't even bother showing up.
The bartender was standing behind the bar, wiping down glasses with a fancy cloth, and the barmaid was leaning over, hugging her tray to her chest as she stared a hole into the TV broadcast of the nightly news.
She broke for a moment to speak.
-"Have you heard the rumors about the deaths"
After a moment of not hearing a reply, Vincent called out, "What of it?".
She spun around quickly, clearly eager to talk.
"I heard that it's this crazy witch who curses guys for being mean to women"
-"Ahhhhrg, and who told you that, some drunken leprechaun?"
-"As a matter of fact, this comes from a very reliable source. I've seen documents showing this happening throughout, well, forever! It's always the same, guy cheats on girl, guy gets cursed, dies in his sleep, yadda yadda yadda. Maybe it's just the woman, but it's a well documented phenomenon that's too easily explained by plain old murder"
-"Hell hath no fury, like a woman scorned", piped the bartender precociously.
"You got that right buster, maybe next time you'll think twice about making me work every night", spouted the barmaid.
-"I don't think I have too much to worry about from you, then"
-"Hey, what's the big ide---- she began before being interrupted by Vincent putting his hands to the table and hoisting himself up.
"Oh", she gasped.
Vincent knew it might look melodramatic, but he was actually trying to conceal his drunkenly clumsiness, and it seemed to work. He began towards the door.
"Hey Vincent, are you leaving?", asked the barmaid.
"Yeah."
-"Well, you be safe getting home", - "and don't do anything stupid", she added.
"Yeah, Yeah - Hey, you know the creepy twins never came by tonight". The bartender and his maid looked at him quizzically. "I just thought that was weird", he said, before walking out the door.
"That is kinda strange, doncha think? I mean they're here every night since before even I've been here"
-"Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand."
The barmaid looked at the man as he spoke, silently appreciating the words.
"HHEEEEEyYYyy You! It's really dark out and I'm kinda scared, mind if I walk with you?", was heard from behind the door.
