If I had to make a guess based on nothing:

Xbox 720 > Xbox 360
PS4 > PS3
WiiU < Wii
3DS > DS (Although I'm having my doubts about this one)
PSP < PSV

I think the market will still grow a bit, smartphones won't stop that.

Xbox 720 > Xbox 360. Check.

Ps4 > Ps3. Check.

Wii U < Wii. Check

3DS > DS - Dont think So. Over 100M maybe.

Psp < Psv. Check

We might be wrong though.

At least we'd be wrong together.

I am fairly confident we got 4 out of 5 correct though

I expect everyone to decline. The only way to offset it though would to make it last longer then this one. Their is really no reason for a growth

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

I'm not sure, depends what route they go doesn't it? This has been a huge generation for everyone.

I would say huge for nintendo and MS but not for Sony.

Relative to their past gens no, but in perspective, all 3 will do over 85m, that's pretty huge, especially as 360/PS3 didn't lead the market for the first 3/4 years

Im assuming by smaller you mean in terms of units sold? In that case i dont think it matters whether it grows, decreases or stays the same. At the end of the day these companies need to be making money in the industry, its pointless if Sony/MS/ nintendo sells x amount of consoles but makes zero profit. Its just not feasible in the long run.

Something needs to be done about how the industry is structured as whole. We need to get to a point where a console sells 10 million units but makes a profit. That would be more feasible in my opinion. I put the blame on the manufactures, they need to change their game plan. This is especially targeted at the pricing structure. It just seems like a lose lose situation for all parties concerned.

I guess so if you look at it that way.

The way i see it is that Sony has hardly profited from this gen, if at all, which really should be the only way we look at this. Everyone seems to be judging size by units sold, but how relative is that to manufacturers who are running a loss for almost the entire gen?

If trends continue the way they are going now with the length of console generations increasing the average quantity of sales for the next generation has to increase by virtue of there being many more years of sales.

Tease.

I expect it to be even bigger, maybe some bumps in the beginning would be expected though.

I came to this thread expecting a discussion on the actual proportions of the consoles, not on sales, and I hope I wasn't the only one that dumb.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Handheld gaming won't be as big, but console gaming will probably be bigger.

Wii U won't sell as many as the Wii, but PS4 and Nextbox will sell better than their predecessors.
