Forums - General - Why is Utorrent downloading torrents incredibly slowly? Please help! :(

Tagged games:

I have 30 seeds, full health bar and the little icon in the bottom right corner is a green tick, I should be getting around 500 kb/s but I'm getting an average of around 3 kb/s. My internet is working completely fine, anyone know what the problem is?

I'm not illegally downloading anything.

Utorrent (Or any torrent program) for that matter are more than occasionally wrong about the "seeds".

So basically, if you're not downloading something new (Or just incredibly popular) It might take a while.

Of course you are but so is everyone else and you can do what you like.

Anyway, back on topic. Sounds very likely that your ISP is throttling the ports that are generally used by peer to peer applications, or is throttling all types of packets that are identified as that traffic type. More than likely the latter, if it's just throttling ports then you can change your post in uTorrent to something else and it fixes the throttling. This is the very old method that ISPs used years ago so it's very unlikely that will work but always worth a try of course.

You will most likely find that your uTorrent downloads will go back to full speed during offpeak hours.

I see you're in the UK like myself, the only ISP that offers genuine unlimited, unthrottled internet is Sky broadband in their LLU areas. All other ISPs, unless you're paying per GB will throttle you after you have downloaded a certain amount as outlined in their FUP.

Do you have UPnP enabled, both in Utorrent and on your router? Or have you opened a port for utorrent?

I have no idea, could you please talk me through it? And do you any reason why I'd suddenly be having these problems? Because it used to work just fine, no settings have been changed, router and laptop is exactly the same.

Sooo your having trouble torrenting porn!? Kidding of course, maybe the amount of people downloading the same thing creates issues?

Hmm...since you say that, it doesn't look like it's something that can be fixed by changing the port. Did you install an antivirus program recently or reenable a firewall or something? You can try opening a port though, you can find the instructions for it on this site:  http://portforward.com/  . Just look for your router and then pick utorrent and follow the instructions.

Edit: Also, does this just happen with one torrent or all torrents you've tried recently?

No, the laptop I'm downloading it on has no antivirus program running and Utorrent is let through windows firewall. I've tried that site before, doesn't have my router listed :/ (WANADOO-A9E4)

Has happened with all the torrents I've tried recently.

People still use torrents? Lol, usenet and FileSonic for the win, lifetime member and always get the fastest speed they got
