Why would they reject smart people in the first place? They don't want intelligent policemen or what?

Intelligent people are capable of questioning orders. From my personal experience, the police force is akin to a pack of dogs.

You don't consdier people with an IQ of 105 as smart?

Intellegence much less  to do with questioning orders then you would think.

I mean... I'd note that the big study about resistance to authority is called the Stanford prison experment.

No, I certainly do not view those with an IQ of 105 as smart, not even close. Considering how dimwitted human beings are as a whole being slightly above average is simply slightly above braindead.

Was wondering if you were going to see this.

I can understand the policy, and I'm sure the evidence has pointed to that, hence enacting the policy, but still... This guy really wanted to be a cop, and then, I assume, a detective? Maybe too smart for your basic beat cop, but c'mon, I would want this guy as a lead detective. What's the point of all those Law and Order CI shows if it could never be!? :p

BOOM!  FACE KICK!

If he really was that smart he would've gotten a few wrong to score in that range so he could do the jobs he wanted to do.

All I can do is shake my head. What a retarded policy, not accepting him for scoring too high on the tests. So now there's affirmative action for dumb/mediocre people.

actually its not retarded because its obvious that if his iq tests are too high, he  might get bored quickly. duh

Or he might not get bored, and be a great cop.

'on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training.'

Or they are smart enough to realize the system is to fked up and decide to either not arrest certain people, or try to commit a diabolical crime themselves, and the rest of the department won't be smart enough to figure it out.

It's easier to have dumb people do your bidding, then to have.... well....

For all we know that statement may be the basis of the US..

I will add this, though: When I was a cop, there was a test that we had to pass. It wasn't a measurement of our aptitude, though. It was just a measure of our comprehensive skills. I don't think there was such a thing as scoring too high. I think they just wanted us to be above the minimum.

People that came into the front door as a patrol officer had the world open up to them. From there, they could go for the GBI, FBI, State Patrol, Investigations, etc. Those jobs require a fair amount of intelligence but they build on the foundations that are taught at mandate school.

I know this article isn't about the U.S., though. Still, this guy may have gone on to become a great detective or something. He may have moved up the ranks quickly. The way it stands, he was never given a chance.
