Question: does a service exist to download HD movies onto your PS3 harddrive?

I do not think so and if it did exist i think the HDD would limit it.

No, not as yet, but I believe sony has said they were on the verge of doing this.

I'm guessing a barebones movie would require around 20GB without the extras but i am not positive.

They will in the future, the PS3 lags the Xbox in online content. The HD downloads on the Xbox are really compressed. They are compressed so much that they can fit on a standard dual layer DVD so harddrive space is not really an issue. I have downloaded true HD movies and they are about 25 gigs and if you go for 264 compression they run about 14 gigs. The microsoft downloads are about 4-6gig

Ouch. Meaning you could have 1-4 on your harddrive, depending on which system you have.

Why is Microsoft then offering it on the 360?
