I can understand the sentiment in not allowing the hardest difficulty to be chosen at start.

BUT the Luigi thing is like an easter egg. They didnt' have to let you play as Luigi, its a mario game. Bitching about that is stupid.

Also I would much rather have them unlock a harder mode or Luigi, or whatever else than just get a random achivement to pop up saying "congrats 100%" Who gives a shit about that.

Lets weight the two. An achievement saying you got 100% or the OPTION to replay the game in a harder mode or with a new character. Yea sorry number 2 wins EVERY TIME. I don't need the game telling me i beat something 100% to know I beat it 100%. AND I can chose to play the game again if I want. IF I don't, then so be it. BUT what can you do when you get the achivement of 100%? Nothing, your done. You can only play the EXACT same game on the same difficulty, its nothing new. So if your okay doing that, why are you not okay doing it with a new character or harder difficulty ect.

your wrong. in order to 5 star Mario u must do Luigi part, the highest amount of stars you can get with just a Mario playthrough is 2. Now if they let 5 star with 1 playthrough(NSMBW) and just let luigi be optionanal you would be correct .. this has nothing to do with achievements .. dont believe in that system.

So the game is what 240 stars then to complete all instead of 120?

Are you complaining that the game is too long?

whoops u did... the massive qoutebox makes it hard to separate yours ans snake - but again this is not not wanting unlock.. its the methods. If you want to do a pre-game make the 2nd part different. It is completely boring not challenging to play through Kirby again. They didnt challenging sphere locations, stage layout, bosses anything .. the very same twice! why just not have had EX unlocked? Why just made it optional for ppl who want to to worthless hard mode and give the full ending and game completion status to the normal playthrough. Why invalidate the 1st to make the second more appealing? <--- thats the main point

Haven't played Kirby, so I can't comment on that situation, though isn't that more for completion sake only, or does finishing Kirby on Ex-Mode give you a different ending?

There's a lot of games in which you go through the main storyline and then unlock a harder mode or a more complete mode for the next playthrough. The main perps of this are JRPG's themselves. Games like Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve and many others make you go through the main story once and then replay the game again in a higher difficulty or with more unlockables which gives you the "true" ending or a series of different endings. It's not necessary to do it, only if you're doing it for completion sake and at the same time, it doesn't invalidate the first playthrough that you did, even knowing that there's more to see if you complete the game further.

For example, in the case of Super Mario Land 3D, the implementation of Luigi was poorly done, especially because it doesn't change anything in the game, unlike in the galaxy games, where the galaxies changed and some layouts were modified. On SML3D nothing happens, it's the same level as Mario which just ends up being filler content. Beating it as Luigi is only for completion sake, if you wish to get a full 5 star name file, but you can see the ending or the full game just by doing the game as Mario, both the normal worlds and the special worlds.

In the end, I believe you do have a point when you say that in some cases the lack of having a choice between having both difficulties modes (or any kind of unlockable) is bad when those unlockables are pretty moot once you do them in game, but it's mostly a game to game case.

Because Nintendo is old school gaming. The reward is simply by allowing you to play again in a harder situation. Been like that since their beginning. Nothing wrong with it. I'd rather get a modified version of the game where its almost like a new game for free than some silly imaginary trophy or score. I don't need a larger e-penis, mine is fucking gigantic already.

I'm fully in agreement. I have no problem with being given hard mode, but give me something extra to go with it! Let me have another character or two that operate significantly differently, so I can have a whole new experience while I play this hard mode!

for the 3rd time: This has nothing to do with achievements/trophies system at all... do not believe in that system.

nothing that i did... long as multi qoutebox from lest, slime, snake and player

I actually like unlocking harder difficulties, it feels sort of rewarding for me.
I remember finishing DMC 3 on normal... and unlocked hard, then finishing it on hard to unlock Dante Must Die and finish that to unlock Heaven or Hell. I had a lot of fun playing and re-playing the game over and over again from the beginning and the harder it got the more rewarding it felt... and you also unlocked other stuff appart from new difficulties like costumes, videos, screenshots and things like that.

God Hand was pretty cool with that too... I remember finishing normal and having some trouble to do it only to unlock Hard mode, which was like hell the first time, lol... I even thought I wasn't going to make it xD pretty awesome :D... too bad there wasn't anything harder than hard... so I had to re-play it with self imposed challenges to make it harder for myself :P.

I remember other games like Megaman Legends 1 and 2 i which you cleared it on normal to unlock hard and after finishing the hardest mode, you unlock Easy mode... it's cool and you feel overpowered but... I don't know, it isn't as rewarding as getting a harder difficulty.

I had no problem getting all weapons and stuff in that game over and over again, it didn't bother me.
