Forums - Sony - PS Vita Shipments could top 700k (Japan) FW

It won't be a good sign if Sony isn't able to sell a lot of software with the Vita early on. Their main problem in the 7th generation (with both the PSP and the PS3's first couple years) was the inability to move games. While the 3DS struggled at first, it had some big launch games (such as Layton) and certainly hasn't struggled to push its biggest titles. Hopefully a title likes Hot Shots Golf has consistent sales and can keep a presence on the Japanese charts going into 2012.

Unfortunatley this could be the start of the end for VGChartz, at launch all the games have a lower RRP on PSN than in the shop and there all available on PSN no issue of stock supplies running short in local stores, so i would expect alot of people to be buying there software that way, which VGC will never be able to track accuratley. And i fully expect Sony and MS to follow this model with there next consoles.

So expect Vita hardware to break conventional rules for hardware sales being connected to software sales from physical stores.

My prediction of 550K first week still looks good.

if Vita does more than 600k first week in Japan, I'll be really, really surprised

and the reason is, apart from 3DS strong competition, it doesn't really have any megaton game yet that is going to attract Japanese, now if it makes these numbers without a big game, imagine with FF for example what it can do

I was thinking that too, you would have thought Sony would have got Squeenix to make SOMETHING to keep the buyers happy, though I suppose FF X HD has been announced for Vita, as well as one or two other ones, though not with the FF name

Lord of the Apocalypse is a launch title, but it is also on the PSP. So eh. But there are over 20 games launching during the launch week. I feel Square-Enix will support the Vita much quicker than they did with the PSP however, so there will be much more in the way of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts titles for the system.

I wonder ifthe 3DS' Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will be brought to the Vita?

That would be good, though I would expect that FF Type 1 will come to Vita once they are done with the Western launch, or something like Crisis Core (one of the best games on PSP imo)

Yes, Square-Enix needs to bring more content to the Vita much sooner than they did with the PSP. I believe Crisis Core was their first game on PSP and it was two or three years into the life of the system.

But since then, Squeenix have done a great job supporting the system

True, but the system was dead outside of Japan by the time they jumped on. The Vita has to push software to keep the major developers and publishers on board the entire way through its lifecycle.

I feel there's a pretty strong chance we'll see birth by sleep 2 sooner rather than later.

Yeah, and as such, Squeenix were the only the publisher to properly support the hardware

Vita really does need to expand this, but make sure it doesn't leave behind Japan, as that is still an important market

Japan is still very important. If companies continue making the content that the japanese want to buy, they will buy. That is what I don't understand from people. The japanese have proven time and time again that first person shooters are not what they go crazy over.

Call of Duty begs to differ

Call of Duty has nothing on Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts or any game that Level-5 puts out in Japan.

White Knight Chronicles II? Probably WKC1 too soon enough

So you're agreeing with me? I'm not sure I understand.

guys keep in mind that just like carl pointed out..first 'week' sales will be for only 2 days! don't expect gigantic numbers

True, VGChartz will have to work something out to have an approximate of those numbers too.

SE did a great job with PSP

-Final Fantasy Dissidia 1
-Final Fantasy Dissidia 2
-Final Fantasy I Anniversary Collection
-Final Fantasy II Anniversary Collection
-Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection
-Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core
-Star Ocean First Departure
-Star Ocean Second Evolution
-Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday
-Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
-Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep

^ Thats a good lineup.

Only 5 of those games were new...

And you forgot Tactics Ogre PSP and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, but they were also remakes.

Plus these games came after the PSP was declared dead outside of Japan.
