this is very simple and has been gone over many times
look at the history of the entire GTA franchise, and you will understand.
GTA typically only numbers up when it goes from one gaming gen to the next.

@ultraslick... really? I hadn't noticed, were GTA or GTAII even on consoles though? because a console generation isn't really relevant to PC.

@topic... I haven't checked numbers but it will clearly be either MS or GTAIV.

I thought it was going up to GTA4 because Rockstar decided to actually upgrade the engine theyve been recycling since GTA3 and somehow kept selling the damn games despite them looking like mouldy cheese.

 I always thought of Vice City and San Andreas as GTA3.1 and 3.2, since they were more expanding the world that GTA3 created..

I guess that may pose a problem for me when i expect a lot to change come GTA4

GTAIV goes up in numbers when they actually add something to the game. Each "numbered game" is based on a completely different engine, while the "subtitled games" are the same engine as before with a different story and character.

As for first to three million, motorstorm will do it, so long as it remains bundled. Which I'm sure it will.
