We have new details from Naughty Dog’s upcoming The Last of Us. Check them out below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
>The Last of Us will share the core technology of last year’s super hit game: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception with a few changes.
>The Last of Us will focus more on non-verbal communication thereby putting more emphasis on facial expressions.
>The actor’s voices will be captured along with their physical movement, similar to what Naughty Dog have done in the Uncharted franchise.
>The VGA 2011 trailer was actually planned to be shown at E3 2011, showing an unarmed Ellie.
>With The Last of Us, Naughty Dog will try to explain ‘something’ about human beings and how they exist.
>The Last of Us will take place across several cities in America.
>The Last of Us will see Naughty Dog transitioning to awesome environments and minimalist story telling.
The Last of Us is due Q4 2012/Q1 2013 exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
Thanks to our reader, Rubens (via edge) for sending this in.

CGI-Quality said: So for those who didn't figure it out, there will be a reveal of something twice before E3, there will be a wealth of info come E3, and it should release Qtr. 1 2013. Don't ask how I know all that! |
Im so excited!!

It will likely cost nowhere near that. Think about it, every time an Uncharted game releases, it takes the industry by storm and wins graphics/technical/story award after award.....all for a whopping $20 million dev costs. I can see The Last Of Us having, perhaps, the largest budget since Uncharted 3, but not much over $30-40 mill. |
The Last of Us won't even cost 20% of that to produce.
The reason for SWTOR massive development budget is because it was created by a team of 800 developers of the course of several years, and they only allowed that because MMO's rake in money over time.
CGI, I love you, can't wait for more info, and Q1 2013 is awesome!

While browsing through The Last Of Us behind the scenes shots, this image popped out. It seemed to show the character Joel outside among some cars near a building, possibly in a car park (the screen on the left). The screen on the right is far more interesting. It seems to show another another building and what looks like things to climb on. Will The Last Of Us use some Uncharted style clambering to get in and out of ruined buildings? It looks a bit like rubble towards the back of the right screen suggesting collapsed buildings.
since theres no MP to work on does anyone think we'll see a 2012 release date? if so this year could possibly the best year of SW releases of the 7th gen HD wise

CGI did you base that they will reveal something twice before E3 on the numbers in the vid?

Q1 2013 at the earliest. They have no reason to rush it and have already said they aren't pinning themselves to any dates. |
they say Q4 2012- Q1 13 do game release dates resemble fiscal year quarters so jan- june
b/c from my experience of games that i monitored even since last gen, games that i was hyped about that didnt have released dates but Qs would almost always get released in a time that resembled fiscal quarters
at above post its hard for me to be impressed graphically this late into the gen
