This idea just popped into my head so I thought I'd give it a spin, either it'll catch on or fall flat on it's ass.
Ok, so the idea is to find how mainstream a gamer you are in relation to your respectively owned console/s!
List all of the games you own for your current system, eg. I own Zelda:TP, Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Excite Truck & MPC (Not exactly an extensive collection but I'm a skint student).
Now take the WW sales numbers for each of the games, eg. 4.31m, 4.3, 1.09, 0.59 & 1.04 and add them together = 11.33
Now divide this total by the number of games you own, 11.33/5 = 2.27
Finally to allow rough comparisons between owners of all console divide this number by how many million units your system of choice has sold & multiply by 10, in my case Wii, 2.27/19.45x10 = 1.17
I officially have a mainstream rating of 1.17, of course this number means nothing without being put into context by other's ratings. The higher your number the higher the likelyhood that you have pretty generic tastes relative to your fellow system owners though the more likely that the types of games you like will continue to be made, the lower your rating the more likely it is that you have far more eclectic and dare I say more interesting tastes than the average vgchartz owner though on the down side you may struggle to find many more of your favoured types of games being released.
Of course this is far from bullet proof reasoning and should be seen as a bit of fun more than anything else.
I predict that I will end up having a pretty middle of the road taste in comparison to others, we shall see.... maybe.
*note, I didn't include Wii Sports since I didn't buy it. Also I multiplied by 10 at the end so as to avoid having decimal ratings(not rocket science but thought I'd explain anyway).
