If Sony launches within a good window with good exclusives, proper pricing and cross chat in their online next gen Microsoft is kinda screwed. Especially with the online being free that goes double.

I bet 10000000000% PSN will NOT be free next gen. That would be a horrible business move for Sony.

PSN is free right now, and Live kills it every year in hours spent playing online. Available downloadable content is also much more active on Live.

Sony need to make money from PSN to keep up with the R&D of Live.

Dec 6th Live changes again, with so many features that the competition just doesnt have. An integrated search engine for a start.

my ps3 allowed me to do google searches from selected  games from when i first got it in 2009 furthermore theres the full web broswer from which i can use any search engine i like

and with that dec 9th update comes cloud saving as a major feature, ps3 had that for months now

For anyone that doesn't care for Joels interpretation.

lol Seece, lets ask you how you think my interpretation differs from what was said?

I don't know if it does, didn't bother to read it. I know in general your posts send me and others to sleep and when you announce news not everyone thinks highly of your opinion so you should just post the news and put your opinion under it. I'm not reading anything under this sentance either

Also I did provide the source for a reason so everyone could see exactly what was said. My so called interpretation is to encourage discussion and I in no way bent the facts. I'd like to know what exactly was wrong with my OP? I mean I realize you don't like me but it is sorta funny that you would make a comment like this.

Plus I was recently asked why I don't just copy and paste the articles, rather I create an original post based on the news. Fact is anyone can copy and paste an article a moron can copy and paste an article. The children in pre-school can copy and paste an article. Why would anyone want to read my threads if they were just copied from somewhere else.

Sorry but my interpretation and insight into the matters which I add for conversational value and journalistic value. This adds to the conversation and legitimacy of the thread and topic. Plagiarism is not something I do.

Anyways I did provide the source for a reason, my OP didn't stretch anything out just sought to explain things and encourage dialogue. Which I am very sure it will, so thank you for your plagiaristic concern but I don't copy others I actually create new discussions and report legit unique news. If you want to read the Eurogamer article click the source, or better yet leave VGChartz and just read Eurogamer. People come to VGChartz forum to discuss not to read the latest news from Eurogamer. It would be interesting if VGChartz actually broke a story like this but for the time being if you want Eurogamer go to Eurogamer if you want the source go to the source. But I am never going to plagerize or copy and paste, I actually contribute to the discussion.

Last time I checked it's actually against the rules to copy paste an article into a thread.

Last time you checked you were misinformed.

You need to personalize it.

No you don't.

Good job Joel, keep it up.

In case anyone wanted to argue...

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/forum-rules.php#content Section 7 (emphasis added)

7. Substance. Content is king. Threads lacking content can and will be locked. Some tips to keep you and your posts out of trouble:

  • Do not post just a link. Links have context - expound upon that context. For example, Mario Piano Videos. Post a link, but also give some background on what the link is to, or better yet, comment on how Mario has influenced pop culture. This way, it's not just a link and run. Remember: the reader's interest is not only in the link, its in what you have to say about it, how you make sense of what would otherwise be a blind link (and a subsequently poor thread). The only exception to this rule is for game patches - bearing in mind rule 3, go ahead and get that link posted as fast as possible.

That's basically saying don't just post a link and nothing more. The done thing around here is to post the link, the content, and then YOUR opinion under it. Not that joel can't carry on doing what he's doing, but there are obviously more people upset with his posting style than those that like it.

Free or not, you did not adress what he was saying. Ms has to launch before Sony for it to compete. Ms biggest advantage will be price and and lauch date, without them, they are screwed.

Completely disagree. M$ owns America. Thats theirs now. EMEAA is very close. M$ are going toe to toe with Sony and Sony have thrown evverythin they ave first party wise at M$ and yet M$ are standing.

Before you start to talk about what M$ need, how about what Sony need. After all Sony are in last place. They lost US this gen an do NOT have EU to themsleves.

MS owning America the way they have this gen is not guaranteed next gen.

The things that helped M$ destroy in America was the cheap price and the games Halo, Gears Of War, Grand Theft Auto and Call Of Duty. I dont think MS will get another exclusive dlc on the next gen GTA like this 1 and Gears will most likely be going multiplat next gen so those are out of the picture. M$ should still have a lead in America though because Call Of Duty will most likely keep with the exclusive maps 1st on xbox consoles and of course Halo(if the series is still the same due to bungie not making it anymore)

and i cant see how anybody could honestly look at EMEAA's numbers and claim that M$ are going "toe to toe" with Sony LMAO ¯(ツ)/¯

my goodness, some of you guy's make bigger "big A** wall's of text" than me O_o!

I'll bet PSN will still be free with the addage of PSN Plus and Sony will find more ways to make Plus more appealing and more personal to the PS3 crowd much like Xbox Live pushed the envelope earlier in the gen. To anyone who is smart they will notice Microsoft has made the 360 utterly useless as a multimedia device without the use of Xbox Live. Silver is useless and you can barely upgrade properly. Theres no bonus in making people pay for a connection they already have (I also feel bad for those with Netflix and dont have Gold). I much like many others know this because Microsoft kicks people off Xbox Live for modding and people are forced to buy new Xboxes if they dont just want to game without online. Microsoft is doing it because they can and Sony has proven that with their offerings on PSN with the addition of their PSN service. Nintendo has yet to prove Microsoft wrong, but Son definitely did it. Sony knows if they launch on time with proper games at a proper price the world outside of America will give them the first look over Microsoft. 3/5 of Microsofts sales are in America, so you know where there sales will be regardless. This case was the same for the original Xbox. Microsoft will also be making the 360 more available to everyone (not just gamers) and soon will make Xbox Live completely indestinguisable to their PC OS.  Sony then can capitalize with the games like they are doing now. You can see where Microsoft is headed next gen with their recent acquisitions. They are too predictable. They are just business suits not a gaming company and every day they prove it even more. The only thing they've perfected is online community and once they set the bar others can definitely follow. It's not impossible. Their hump to follow Sony is harder because it takes more risk to have more first party companies and Microsoft has proven they can barely handle it this gen. Lets see if depending on multiplats selling more on their system next gen will help them. If Sony launches within their window it will force everyone to look at what they are really getting right out of the box.

P.S.

I love all the features Xbox Live will keep having. I'll have that whilst Sony keeps giving the more important feature.....exclusive games. No matter what Microsoft does they cant outshine Sony for multimedia. Sony is multimedia company, not Microsoft. Microsoft is an OS company and everything from watching movies on your consoles from Sony pictures to listening to music is first party. Microsoft pays out of pocket for something Sony already has. All Microsoft will do is keep on buying deals to shy away from the fact that they dont find investing in first party companies to be desirable since they wasted $400,000,000 collars buying Rare and seeing nowhere near the return.

1. I love payin for Live, I can clearly see where that mooney is spent.

2. I sure as hell hope the Xbox goes closer to PC. PC is streamlining up with Windows 8. And with the update on Dec 6th this year Microsoft are bringing App marketplace to 360. The best thing for TV consoles IMO. Dedicated Apps.

3. IMO  M$ already outshine SOny for multimedia. I DONT want Bluray. I know many that dont. Sony CANNOT offer ME what I want. Full list of streamed/downloadable Full HD movies. Every album I want at a cheap price. Gaming at a great cost. Sony cannot offer me Halo or Forza. or Gears or fable. Since I dont really care for Uncharted or killzone and have absolutely NO interest in games like Infamous or Motorstorm or Resistance. Sony to me has yet to produce anything that makes me want a PS3. You can reel off Sony games, but none make me want a PS3. To me they dont compare with the quality on longevity of M exclusives. IMO. Sony are not destroyin M$ in EMEAA, so this so called First Party Advantage is not anywhere near what you Sony fans believe.

4. M$ made videogames before Sony did. So technically Sony are just a TV manufacturer if you are saying M$ ar jsut an OS manufacturer. MGS exited long before PS1.

Hey, I find Joel's posting style just as odd as the next guy, but he's right this time. He clearly found an interesting article and created a thread with the intent to give his opinion (or interpretation or whatever) on the article with the source clearly linked at the bottom. He gave people the oppurtunity to read the exact article and to read his interpretation of it, though there's probably little people that really care about the small differences between the two, considering they both give the same core points. There is nothing wrong with what he did. Threads created with the purpose of giving opinions & interpretations are destined to appear on any open forum. If people are too lazy to click the link for the exact word-for-word source, then that's their own problem.

For future reference Joel, maybe you should place a disclaimer at the top of your post that reads "This post is my opinion on the article linked below." That should clear up any problems.

This.  Seece if you want to critisize someone's writing style, message them or post on their wall instead of doing in their thread and adding nothing to the discussion.

@ OP

I think anyone thinking Sony would release in 2014, giving Nintendo a 2 year head start, is just fooling themselves.  Sony is working on the PS4 at this very moment, and will be ready for a mid-late 2013 launch.

You are pathetic. Drive the knife home? Grow up.

OT: I hope Sony release the ps4 the same time as the xbox, it would be so interesting to see how the sales would be. Oh and thanks seece for translating the wall of rubbish. I have the latest edition of edge and no where in that article did GG say they were making killzone for ps4.

No need to get offensive. Chill. We are talking about a plastic product with some moving parts.

I personally think alot of people are overestimating Sonys First Party influence.

Sony have played all their big guns plus sequels in terms of First party this gen. And Xbox 360 is still standing proudly in sales even still. Remember regardless of deals ( Whiich all consoles have ) 360 hasnt had a pricecut for 2 years. And they just soldover 500,000 last week. There is no evidence  currently on this generation thatXbox would struggle against PS if released at same time. It would be very interestng.

The Google search is nothing like 360 search intergration. And the brrowser thin is the same thing as a phone browser. Apps are btter designed and make use of the hardware its on. Which isthe root M$ is taking. I neverusemy phone browser. AndI wouldnt use a 360 browwser. I only use my PC internet for VGC, banking and youtube. I use my phone apps for everything else.
