$50-100 losses is not a problem, Sony will only be in trouble if they get upto around $200 I think. Microsoft could afford to eat $200 if they really wanted to try and dominate Sony and maybe Nintendo.

Sony isn't what it was where they can do a loss leader to push out competitors.

That's why I said $50-100 loss for Sony. That's relatively small and shouldn't be a problem at all.

The rest of your post I have no objection to really. :)

Loss leader strategy is so deeply ingrained in Sony though, I would be surprise if they sell any new consoleat a profit.

So, they are pretty much stuck between Nintendo and Microsoft. PS4 will be between WiiU and Xbox3.

Loss leader does not guarantee anything, as proven by PS3. So, they still could beat Microsoft with games, games, and games.

Sorry but 200$ loss per console? This is absolutely absurd.

Nether Sony or Microsoft will do that. I only suggested this for Microsoft, please read a little more closely. Microsoft lost around $150 per 360 at launch, yet the Xbox 360 division has made them billions in profit. 1.2 billion as of summer 2011 I believe. It isn't absurd at all, that money will eventually be made back through software, the main source of income for consoles.

In fact they will watch that they make no loss at all. Both companies lost millions of dollars with the expensive PS360-Hardware. PS3 lost money because of the billions spend in R&D. PS3 took a $250 loss (more or less), which while I agree was too high at the time and would be suicide now, this isn't what's held the PS3 back from being profitable. The Xbox 360, like I said, is now making Microsoft billions, so those initial losses (which they made back ages ago) are totally justified.

$50-100 on PS4 is nothing. They'll make $50 back through software in half a year easily. $100 would be made back in a year probably. (this is on a per-consumer basis of course)

Ooooooohhh... Not used to this lately xD

I've discussed multiple times why PS4 can't be a supercomputer compared to WiiU. They don't have the money to make that huge jump in technology that would be required to graphically blow away the WiiU and still make the console affordable. 599 US DOLLARS might have been steep but acceptable in 2005 when the economy was high, but things are different now. I personally believe that Nintendo is pushing the upper limits for what a family will buy at 350. Sony doesn't have the cash reserves to take a loss this generation, and I believe that MS is more obsessed with making a set top box that also plays games than it is pushing the tech envelope.

WiiU, or just a little better, will be par for the next generation.

the fact is that the nextbox and PSorbis are going to rape the WiiU spec-wise

Doesn't really matter really. Wii raped PS360 sales wise this gen, even with inferior tech

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Edit in......I really want to say that it's over now, but I want to be fair and a little bit kind to your last bit of Hopes & Dreams.  So next week it is, Superchunk.  lol

lol ok so we'll just have to disagree for now and see what happens. I'm still firmly in the  frame of mind that both will come out by next holiday (2013).

They did that this generation. MS was losing about $200 (or maybe just under) per console and Sony was well above.

The arguement that they won't be willing to lose that much again is inline with the idea that they won't greatly surpass Wii U in specs. Kinda how its defined in OP really.

What was the average amount of RAM a computer had in 2005?

Galaki said 1GB, I was actually going to say 2GB was more of the standard then... but it may be more accurate to say 1gb to 2gb.
