Forums - Microsoft - 343 puts down rumours of next-gen Halo 4

VG247

343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor has laughed off rumours that Halo 4 is to be a launch title of the next Xbox.

“Halo 4 will be on Xbox 360 and use a modified core of the Halo engine,” the studio lead wrote onNeogaf.

The Halo franchise’s role as a flagship Xbox title, along with persistant whispers of upcoming new hardware, had some speculating the upcoming game would be part of a surprise console announcement. Halo 4 is expected in late 2012.

I thought it was announced as a 360 title when they announced it at E3.

It was, but basically this is to shoot down all the rumors going around lately.

Well this is interesting, but I wouldn't write off it being a Nex-Box launch title yet. First off Microsoft and other manufacturers and publishers have lied before about their products. So this confirmation really doesn't mean all that much, there are still over whelming evidences to support the fact it could be a Nex-Box launch title.

Why haven't any trailers been shown, other then the teaser and the IGN video? Why no screenshots? Why does Microsoft routinely avoid questions about it being on 360? Other then this statement Microsoft has rarely mentioned it as a 360 title, at PAX I talked with 343 members and asked if it was a 360 or Nex-Box title and they said they couldn't tell me.

Also in 2008, 343 began hiring developers to work on a Next Generation Halo title. In the job description Microsoft wanted someone familiar with the latest PC engines and could work on new hardware. So the question is why did 343 begin hiring staff to work on a next generation Halo title back in 2008 if Halo 4 isn't a next generation title? Are you telling me that 343 has spent over 4 years developing Halo 5? By the time Halo 5 is released say 2014 it will have been in development 6 years. Which makes Halo 4 being a 360 title iffy, I mean if you add up the time line job statements and rumors it paints a very clear picture that Halo 4 could be a Nex-Box title.

So if it is indeed a 360 game they have gone out of their way to leave suspicion.

Another possibility is a multiplatform release like Twilight Princess, Halo 4 could be released on both Nex-Box and 360 thus being a 360 title. It could also be released on a single disk playable in one resolution (Version) for 360 but when played on Nex-Box it could be an improved version.

I won't believe anything Microsoft says until E3 or when ever they announce Nex-Box. Simply because until they show their cards their is just to much evidence that suggests Halo 4 could be a launch title. I note that Microsoft still hasn't shown any definitive proof to actually prove Halo 4 is a 360 title.

Microsoft's word is not worth the paper its written on, just like Nintendo and Sony things are subject to change without notice. If they were ever intended to be the original way at all!

Honestly, I think it's stupid to put Halo 4 on 360. If it launched alongside 720, then Microsoft could've gotten a head start over Sony for 8th generation console gaming. Who will want to buy 720 next holiday when Halo's still on 360?

Not seeing why they would release the 720 in 2012 then, because Halo 4 would be reason for people to buy 720s. Instead they will probably do a new Gears game as a launch title, and Forza and/or PGR along with some other titles. Maybe Halo 2 HD as well.

It's just that simple.

Lol guys, wording is everything.

He didnt say: Halo 4 will ONLY be on 360.

Its a possibility itll be on both. 360 will have the userbase but it can also be a great hardware mover for a next gen machine, say if it had better graphics then the 360 version.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

No it is not. Its a post based on logic and facts.

You can't always believe everything that the big three or any of the publishers say until they back it up. The games industry is one where publishers and developers will say what ever they have to to keep fans happy or build hype.

As I said I'm not going to say their won't be a Halo 4 on 360 because I can't say that for sure. But to say it will be on 360 for sure is something that also can't be said, what are we supposed to take Microsoft's word for it without screens or footage to support it, or even other Microsoft employees corroborating it?

There are four options right now!

#1.Halo 4 exclusive to 360

#2.A single disk with two versions of the game, one version for 360 the other for Nex-Box

#3.The game is released on both platforms like LoZ:TP

#4.The game is a Nex-Box exclusive and Microsoft confirms it at the last minute

All four are possibilities until Microsoft shows us the Nex-Box, because when they show Nex-Box if Halo 4 was a launch title they would announce it then.

In fact the fourth option could only be discredited if Microsoft showed us footage or screens of the game being played on a 360. Prove the game is coming to 360, but Microsoft has gone out of their way to offer absolutely no solid proof the game is coming to 360. If you take them at their word without proof you really don't understand how the gaming industry works!
