Still, it's a matter of a few days. Nothing major. Of course, it took Sony longer to get PSN up since they called in outside security companies, as well as government agencies, in to investigate. Then they did a major overhaul to their security. Like I said above, we have to wait for the full investigation to come to a close before we determine which is worse, not that it will really matter at that point. |
Ah yes I see I made a little mistake there, also it turns out it took Sony a while to notice the hack so updated timeline
Day 0 April 16-17 Sony: PSN attacked
Day 2 April 19, 2011 Sony: Sony learns of hack
Day 3 April 20, 2011 Sony: Sony brings down the PSN Qriocity citing technical issues
Day 9 April 26, 2011 Sony: Sony tells the world about the hack and that data was comprimised
May 2, 2011- Sony reveals SOE data breach details to the public
Day 0 Valve: Hacked, forums taken down
D5 Valve: Lets everyone know there was a hack and personal details may have been comprimised, asks people to change passwords etc.
D6 Valve: Forums back, manditory password change
There what took Sony 9(/10 if the attacks happened on the 16th) days took Valve 5 that is a 4 day difference which is a lot when we are talking about these kinds of issues the sooner the better. And the fact that SOny had to bring in outside help to find out what had happened considering the size of their networks was one of the biggest issues that made the PSN attacks so much worse.
