You’ll never guess who reminded us!

“Today is the 5th anniversary of PS3,” wrote Project Sora boss Masahiro Sakura on Twitter.

Sakurai’s studio is currently developing Kid Icarus: Uprising for Nintendo’s 3DS. His studio will also develop the next Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U and 3DS. Sakurai, himself, is known for his role on the Smash Bros. series, as well as several older Kirby games. That said, he’s not afraid to play consoles that don’t sport the “Nintendo” label.

PlayStation 3 released in Japan on November 11, 2006, following a North American launch on November 17, and a European launch on March 23 the next year. Its still-going lifespan has seen the birth of plentiful hit franchises and games, including the Uncharted and Resistance series.

As November 11 passes by, and you pop a copy of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim into your system, take a moment to pat that ol’ PS3 shell and wish it a happy birthday.

Maybe buy it a cake, too.

I was on the fence with this game, because forcing 2D classics to become 3D games rarely works well, but this news seals the deal. Or rather the other way around, if it's taken literally.
