Forums - Microsoft - xmen first class. a new era for zune and xbox live.

Microsoft has been working hard for the last few years to make Zune what it is today. But up till now, watching films has been hampered by 1 thing. So far microsft has been able to rent out films in 1080p but not allow purchase. This is due to publishers holding off on allowing Zune the rights to sell hd films. Microsoft confirmed last year they were working hard to bring this to Zune as it was the highest question asked on their forums. The reason it hadn't happened was publishers trying to push bluesy.

Well now Microsoft had made progress as publishers have started to come on board. So only a few days ago xmen first class appeared on Zune to purchase in full 1080p hd. This is the start of a wave of titles to come. And talks on forums at Zune of starwars 6 films coming hd are impressive times for Xbox live and Zune. Renting was good.

But purchasing hd 1080p films is now a reality and happening.

Thanks Microsoft for all your hard work. =)

The big biff I have with Zune movies and TV shows is they all cost so much!

Anything over $3 for a movie and $1.50 for a TV show is far too much.

I must concur it isn't all that cost effective. There is something troubling about paying more on Zune then anywhere else period. Even bulk purchases seem ludicrous. There isn't actually any savings in doing so, and the prices do not modify downward after time. Sure the newest episode should be more expensive, but after its been out for over a decade why so much.

2150MSP!!! GTFO!!!

I was hoping they would be cheaper than blu-ray and negate the need for me to buy a standalone player.

The cheapest Ive seen First Class for on Bluray is £16.99.

I can get 2100 MSP for £12.00.

So I dont really know what the hell you guys are on about.

Add to the fact that Bluray can be lost or damaged and DD cant.

You're from UK, aren't you?

On Amazon.co.uk the triple play (BluRay+DVD+Digital Copy) sells for £14.

A BR disc will offer better picture (bandwidth, as resolution by itself means little), audio, translations, extras. Plus a BR disc can also be lent to a friend or re-sold. As I have never lost nor seen a damaged BR in my life, but I have lent and borrowed many, and bought a few used ones, I know what I find more useful.

As often is the case, I see the point in DD being useful for renting, not much for buying video content at these conditions.

@Selnor

Rest assured the disparity is even greater in the United States. I can generally buy a episode of my favorite television show for about $2.50 on physical media, and after a year on the market I can expect to pick up that same episode on physical formats for $1.25. On the digital side I could get that same episode through Amazon for $2.00, or if I am frugal wait till the entire season comes out, and buy in bulk in which case each episode costs less the $1.50. Now if you would compare that to Microsoft.

Microsoft charges $3.00 for that episode. The price never drops for that product. There is no cost savings for that episode for buying it as part of a bulk purchase. In other words the price doesn't go down if I just decide to buy an entire season. Microsoft just multiplies the cost of a single episode by the number of episodes. So the result is in fact that Zune is the worst value on the market.

Microsoft is charging between fifteen to fifty percent more for content then the same content on physical media, and is charging thirty three percent more as compared to digital media. While also imposing both taxes on their goods, and requiring users to convert cash into points which always leaves a intentional imbalance. In a nutshell it is nothing less then a ripoff.

Paint if however you like Zune is a colossal cluster fuck of a service, and everybody knows that once they do the simplest math. There is nothing they can do to really impress me at this point. Their product should be cheaper, or on par with others. What they charge is just highway robbery.

first class is a complete masterpiece!!
