So earlier today UbiSoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that a new Assassins Creed game will be coming in 2012. This title is supposedly a "Major" title and will end Desmonds story.

Talking about the release date Yves says "There will be another great, full-fledged Assassin's Creed title next year," and "It will be another major release and we will be communicating more about it in the coming months." Who knows when we will see the first trailer but Yves has leaked some details of Desmonds next adventure, it will be his last.

"In Assassin's Creed we set up a timeline with this whole end of the world plot of December 2012. That's fast approaching, and the story we have to tell, we obviously need to do it before we arrive at that point,"Pointing to the end of Desmond "Assassin's Creed is all about cycles - we have the Ezio cycle and the Altair cycle, and both of those are set to conclude in Revelations and we have the Desmond cycle, which is set to end on December 2012."

This also hints that the game might launch in December 2012 to meet this story ending. It wouldn't make as much sense to launch the game in November. I haven't really played through the Assassins Creed series but this game will no doubt be the climactic game everybody has been waiting for. It will be interesting to see where UbiSoft takes the Assassins Creed franchise once Desmond is gone.
