Forums - Gaming - It appears Sonic Generations doesn't suck...is the Sonic cycle doomed?

So it appears Sonic Generations turned out alright. We may need to retire the infamous Sonic cycle.

8.5 Presentation
An awesome interactive hub world, and a story that, while inconsequential, is enjoyable. The Sonics have a great dynamic.
7.5 Graphics
Looks great in motion, but not as nice when everything stops. Framerate issues pop up somewhat regularly.
7.0 Sound
Hit or miss soundtrack, but cool remixes. Improved voice acting (everyone is 70% less annoying). The sound effects are all spot on.
8.5 Gameplay
Two great types of levels, both awesome examples of Sonic at his finest. The boss battles are weak though.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
Relatively short campaign, but a metric f---ton of unlockables, and motivation to replay every level.
8.5
OVERALL
Great

Good score. It's about what I expected. I hope the HD versions are better than the 3DS version.

Last year's Sonic Colors didn't have any fundamental flaws and incredibly annoying or boring parts either.

I hope the 3DS version of Sonic Generations is even better than the HD versions. Apparently there are some different levels (not sure if they are replacements or additions) and maybe the game runs without any framerate issues.

Sonic is a perfect game on the go (along with metroidvania). Ill probably buy a 3DS if it turns out to be good and different.

I hope modders can make custom levels for the PC version

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

3DS version for me. To be fair, the Sonic cycle ended for me with Colours (and, *gasp*, I enjoyed both Secret Rings and Black Knight too), but it's nice to hear that Generations seems to be, at least critically, the best Sonic game since the start of the so called Sonic cycle.

hehe...sonic fan remix needs to release more levels and hopefully Sonic Generations art and sprites help out.

I think Sonic Megamix is still the best custom Sonic game out there and better than most sonic games since 1994.

I too liked secret rings, and even Sonic Unleashed to an extent. However it felt detivative and not what sonic games should be like.

Sonic Colors and Episode 4 were both good and true sonic games so yeah, cycle is long over. :)

Agreed about both Secret Rings, Unleashed and Black Knight being derivative as to what a Sonic game's experience is about, though I was commenting on my personal assessment of their quality.

Colours and 4 Episode I were indeed very good true sonic games, and I'm very eager to play Generations

Btw, since you're also a Dolphin user, we possibly agree that Colours on Dolphin = Visual marvel. Probably one of the most beautiful games, artistically, this gen.

Oh absolutely. Sega really pushed the wii with that game, and once you bump it up to 1080p and give it some AA...its astonishing. Kinda makes me wonder why WiiU won't have HD support for Wii games...most of them look great.

I really don't see why it won't, unless they're skimping on the graphics card to the point where they can do no more than emulate the Wii in its native resolution

I mean, i know what they've said, but all these things are fluid at the end of the day, though i also don't understand why my Wii doesn't have an ethernet port, and why the Wii U apparently won't either...

Anyway, i quite liked Colors, but i'm rather bitter about Generations not being on Wii. I'll pick it up on 3DS eventually. Maybe when i get back from Japan...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
