Mine would probably be a combination of the battle system and the amount of sidequests to do. I love being able to do A LOT of sidequests and stuff in RPGs, which is why I loved Fallout 3 and something like some of the Final Fantasy games (6, 9, 12).

I can cope with pretty much any RPGs that use a classic turn-based combat system. That's why I tend to like niche JRPGs from Japan.

Yeah, I love classic turn-based systems, too, but a good real-time system like the Tales of games or Star Ocean can be refreshing once in a while.

I like story the most, But other things like music and gameplay are important aswell. I don't really care for Turn based games but If they are done well then they are enjoyable. Random encounters on the other hand are the stupidest gaming invention in history and ssrly need to go die in a fire. If a game has a LMBS then it's pretty much win in regards to it's battle system.

I like the character development aspect. Aka, why Bethesda RPGs bore me to death.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Well things like Oblivion was a god awful game anyway.

Western JPGs have never been up to much really, just boring as hell dungeons and dragons, swords and sorcery type games. Whereas something like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts is the complete opposite.

I like the sense of progression and customization you get with most RPGs. And I appreciate the fact that if you get stuck on a boss or something, you can just level grind until you're able to kick his ass.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Story/Characters > Gameplay > Graphics

Music depends on the quality, and if it fits the rest.
