Forums - Politics - Occupy Wall Street shows American's are Pawns!

I love Canada for doing these. Its about time i was wondering why we haven't been protesting since 2007. If it takes another country to push the USA citizens then im all for it.

Around the Network

They snuck Bieber in on us, too. Those Canadians are more crafty than I thought.

i couldn't agree more with the title of this thread. i'll be back to read it.

So the occupy wall street movement was partly started in canada. So what?
There are influential (wall street etc.) people who don't like the movement, and my impression is that articles like this are written by spin doctors who want to discredit the movement.

By the way, why is the arab spring credited to the american government? I've never heard anything like this, rather the opposite: In the beginning of the arab spring, the american government seemed surprised and like they didn't even know how to react for weeks, whether they should support the protesters or the dictators.

Well there has been some users on VGChartz which have suggested America was responsible for Arab spring. Others in the middle east have made similar accusations. If the US Government had used the middle easterners as pawns as some suggest then this move would be Canada doing the same to America.

This topic wasn't created to discredit the movement, just point out the irony that Canadians were sticking up for America before Americans did. A movement supposed to be based in America was in fact never started by American's at all, makes the movement a little funny as I have already heard news media and representatives of the US Government crediting the movement to the American people.

As for the objectives of the movement and what it will be capable of accomplishing. I am not completely sure what the whole movement would consider a success. No clear objectives have been outlined and I think the starting of this movement without clear objectives and direction is flawed.

I mean the protests are now spreading to Canada, Wall Street does have some influence up here but really its an American issue. Canada didn't hand billions in bail outs to big banks and Wall Street. The movement is evolving out of control with no direction to other countries where it wasn't intended to go at all.

The majority of protestors agree with the premise that the Government of the United States gives way to much money and support to private business. The American's are upset about the bail outs etc...etc.. but here in Canada the whole meaning of the protests is evolving into simple protests over unemployment and poverty.

In the end unlike the Arab Spring which had the defined objective of bringing down dictators and installing democracy. This movement has no real clear objective and has evolved into a less meaningful protest. All it accomplishes is bringing tons of people angry into the streets clogging traffic and in reality its just a nuisance and outside the US won't likely actually accomplish anything.

In fact what can these protests accomplish at all? The guy's who started the protests had one very wide demand "ordain a Presidential Commission tasked with ending the influence money has over our representatives in Washington" Then what? The Commission reports and the Government doesn't change anything. Or changes a few things to appease the commission. What if the commission finds nothing wrong?

Also even after the President orders such a commission we all know protests won't stop. This is just a ton of people venting there anger in a non-productive way. The fact that it is spreading to other countries without any clear objective makes it just a ton of people whinning and complaining about something they are incapable of doing anything about. Its pointless sort of like the Greek riots that won't accomplish anything Greece will go bankrupt if it doesn't make the cuts the protests can accomplish absolutely nothing the money doesn't exist the economy is gone. The Greek Government has its hands tied if it bowed to protestors it wouldn't get a bail out the Government goes bankrupt and all hell breaks loose the country falls apart.
