Forums - Sony - PS3 Slim freezing issues!

Hi, I got a brand new PS3 Slim last week after my 60GB launch model gave up the fight. I swapped the 160GB HDD that came with the Slim for my 500GB HDD, I hooked everything up, switched it on, reformatted the HDD, installed the latest firmware, and arrived at the XMB. Since then I've noticed that my PS3 Slim has been making a habit of freezing quite a bit, never while playing games, but mostly while I'm on the XMB! For example; if I was to try & sign into PSN and it was taken too long, I'd press the circle button to get back unto the XMB, but it won't let me, it'll just stay frozen on the sign in screen. It froze twice while I was on the PlayStation Store, it's happened when I've been on PLAYTV & when I've quit it to get back to the XMB it'll just stay frozen on a black screen, it'll happen when I'm in the XMB & I may click on an icon & it'll freeze for 5-10seconds then proceed with the command I gave it, other times it'll just stay frozen.

Why is this happening?!?! Have I bought a faulty PS3? Is it because I swapped HDD? Is it something to do with the latest firmware update? Or is it just a teething period, something that will disappear with time?

Thanks!

I may have to do that! Even though I've downloaded quite a few of my items from the store again, installed quite a few games & downloaded all the patches for them and getting a new one would mean doing that all again... :(

I hate when stuff like this happens!

you'donly have to install the one patch, but sadley, yes you will have to install the games all over again

I know, man! I re-downloaded all the costumes I had for LBP1&2 yesterday! Now I'll have to do that again soon..:(

But, I definatley think the PS3 is faulty! I just went over to it & of the 4 times I turned it on, it froze every single time! Once when I clicked on the 'Signing In' icon, another when I clicked on my PSN Profile, Once when I went to 'Turn off system' and lastly I turned it on got a disc out of it, then I just hit the power button on the front and it did the triple beep noise and refused to turn off, I had to hold the power button for 20seconds to get it to turn off!

Is it 7200rpm? If so theres your problem, you should use a 5400rpm HDD

I'm pretty sure it was 5400rpm! I had it in my Fat Ps3 for well over a year with no problems.

Then Yeah I'd say it was a faulty system bro, sorry, see if you can take it back to the store and show them what its doing. Maybe they can help or better yet replace it.
