Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Vita will offer external battery option

I wonder why did they not include the detachable battery like the original PSP. One could carry 1-2 batteries with him in the long journey and replace at any time of his choice without sacrificing the look of the machine.

My guess is piracy.  The PSP was hacked time and time again and it somehow had something to do with unmounting the battery.  The expensive ass memory cards may also be the result of Sony trying to combat piracy.

The memory cards and piracy thing is absurd. It's like Sony would be saying "If you're going to pirate our system, at least spend lots of money in the memory cards"

They are nothing more than normal cards with different form factor, I'm almost sure that they are slightly modified memory stick micro.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the battery add on looked as ugly as the 3DS nub cradle?

It would be hilarous but it won't happen - you need clear unobstructed acess to rear touchpad which means that charger will probably have traditional 5V input in the sides (or be a usb charger).

Yeah.  It'll probably just be a little protrusion on the botto, or something.  Quite smart, actually.  A little battery that sticks on top of the 3DS or runs down the back would go a long way to silence critics, too.  Quick and easy to stick on and remove, too. Just plug it into the AC adapter port when you need it.

The best thing they could have done was add battery in the extra slider add on for 3DS. I’m still surprised as to why they didn’t do that!
