Forums - Gaming - GameStop to launch their own tablet!

Alright so we all know GameStop has begun accepting iOS trade in's but who would have guessed that they would be entering the industry themselves. According to a new article from Kotaku The "GameStop certified gaming platform." will be launching next year. The device runs on Android and its main purpose will be gaming.

The tablet will have a controller device as well. Unlike other tablet's GameStop wants this tablet to be a true game console. They hope to see alot of third party support in the near future but expect fewer titles at launch. Look for the device to launch sometime in 2012. The controller pictured above is simply a concept and not the final design.

In the future GameStop hopes to have its streaming service online to counter rival OnLive. This will hopefully mean more third party full fledged games being streamed to GameStop's new tablet.

So this begs the question, will GameStop actually sell iOS devices like I-Phones and I-Pad's when their own tablet launches? Or will they accept trade in deals giving people money off their new tablet in exchange for their other iOS devices?

Will you buy GameStop's first game console (Gaming Tablet) whats your opinion is this a good move for GameStop to be making?

Also what about software, can GameStop pull off launching their own device?

What do you think?

wonder if it would last longer than HP Touchpad

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Ugh, look at the glare on that thing.

Graphic designers need to stop giving everything a wet sheen.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

....soooo do we think this is going to be successful?

Wow seriously? So this will be a portable console? Knowing Gamestop this probably will be at least somewhat successful.

I just wonder if Vgchartz will track it when it comes out.

It's an interesting concept, but can they pull it off? I don't know if it will really be popular, although it might be if it just concentrates on gaming and nothing else.

Built using broken old consoles?

No they won't. This is just another Android tablet, look at OnLive does VGChartz follow their sales?

Also I have to wonder how easy it will be to play this on the run. At home with the tablet on a stand it seems like a great idea. But say your on a plane or bus, your going to place the tablet on your lap then pull out a controller to play? I think it would be fairly difficult to play like that your controller would block your view.

I think GameStop may have been smarter to launch a home console similar to OnLive. This tablet sounds like it will be difficult to play on the go. If GameStop focuses entirely on games and that controller they will have a major uphill battle against other tablets that offer way more services. However if they have their exclusive streaming service and figure out a way to make it easy to play on the run then they could have a hit.

I like the idea, I'll have to be convinced that GameStop can pull this off. At the moment I think a tablet may have been the wrong choice a portable games console or a home console may have been smarter. Then again GameStop couldn't just stop carrying handhelds and home consoles, but with their tablet they can exclusively carry it instead of carrying other tablets or smart phones!

I don't like the look of it, if I want to use it on the move, do I have to put the screen on my lap while using the controller? thats just not convenient to use, and I fear I would easily snap that frail looking controller/remote thingy in half during the heat of a battle.
