Yeah, because it's really easy to just use a phone when trying to set up a race or game with 5-8 people. :(

unless i'm mistaken it goes something like this...

MS owns and maintains all of the servers in use for xbox live and has strict rules and regulations about what developers can and cannot put unto their service.

Sony makes the developer own and maintain their own server for each of their games but does not have as much regulation.

both have their suckage points. i guess it comes down to what you prefer - ease of use or increased freedom.
