Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 Getting Official 3D Update?

CVG

Microsoft is to release a 3D-related Xbox 360 update "most likely via Xbox Live in the coming days".

That's according to a report on msxbox-world.com, which says the update will arrive shortly ahead of the release of a host of new 3D capable games including Gears of War 3,Batman: Arkham City and Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary.

The site's carrying a picture of an option on the Xbox 360 dashboard which reads: "Enable 3D to use stereoscopic 3D in games and experiences that support it." Could the word "experiences" hint at wider 3D support for media services like Sky and Netflix?

The update is also said to introduce a setting which will detect TV size or allow users to input the size manually. We've left a message with Microsoft for comment.

the 360 was capable of displaying "3D" for quite a while now - the question is whether or not it can do "frame packing" now

top-bottom, side-by-side and so on split the resolution per eye in half, while frame packing has full res for both eyes

3D isn't worth all the money IMO. Its kind of cool but it makes my brain buzz and feel weird if I wear the glasses for more than 10 minutes.

As a 2D defense force leader, I am not excited for this.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Well I will respectifully disagree,  dispite getting in at a early stage and paying the price for early adoption, 3D gaming was worth every penny.  And I welcome this news.  With Gears and Halo Remake coming in 3D to match the PS3 games I have in 3D will be bliss to my eyes.

And I do understand not everyone can wear the glasses, as I have family members that get headaches from it.  But I have gotten used to and and have played for a couple hours without any issues.

Early on I was regretting the purchase of my 3DTV,  but not since Killzone 3 have I regretted it.

Don't get me wrong I will probably end up getting 3D but  not until it drops down in price massively.
