By the time PS3 gets to $199.99, i think it may be too late in the gen, with pressure from a next gen Wii and possible x box 720 consumers will be moving on to newer and better systems with more features. Now that is my opinion if we have to wait another 2 years for a price cut. If Sony does another 50 dollar cut next year that should keep PS3 relevant in 2012/13 fiscal year.

Too late for what?

I agree, i think Sony should have dropped the price to $199.99 this year. Even though this is a great price its stil on the pricey side in my opinion and they not even there yet! Sony would have made a big impact with a 100usd cut and a strong ps3 line up. I doubt the ps3 lineup will be this strong ever again in this gen, and i think general interest in the console will start to subside after this holidays (not drastically but just generally).

Sony used the ps2 as an example, of how it sold a large portion of its sales once it hit the 199 price point, but i dont think this applies to the ps3 to the same degree. Increased competition and viable alternatives with very similar libraries will prevent this.

The sooner the next price cut comes the better.

too late for a boost impactful enough to cause any drastic increase in sales. At least, that's what I think he's saying

Wii U and Xbox 720 aren't direct competitor for a $199 PS3.
I meant those who look to buy a cheap PS3 aren't going to spend $400-$500 on the new Xbox.
There's still millions of PS2 owners in America. They'll probably upgrade when the PS3 hits $199.

Anyone who thought the $50 price cut would elevate the PS3 above the 360 in NA was kidding themselves.

And a $199 PS3 isn't going to outsell the 360 in NA either. North America is Xbox country through and through. Now that being said PS3 doing very respectable numbers and should outsell the 360 WW this holiday season.

Good, strong start for Deus Ex, which is great because the game is simply sick.

Actually a large chunk of those millions of PS2 owners in NA did already upgrade............to 360's.......just sayin.

i dont understand why America dislike the ps3 so much. some people can be really dumb.

Sales increased 40% during the 2nd week of a $50 price cut and you consider that dislike (hate) and people that did not buy one are dumb (stupid; and no, the edit didn't make it any less insulting/banworthy).

Just speaking frankly, talk like this doesn't really improve this community and honestly makes genuine PS/Sony fans look bad.  Is it too much to ask to be better?

OT:  Well after the heavy vacation period known as July (and yes, I was one of those people), looks like gamers are returning a bit.  Software should heat up starting next month too as big titles start to be released.  There's hope for the industry yet!

america generally doesnt like the purchasing the ps3, which i find odd. and even after a price cut, it still gets out sold, i find that dumb, on the consumers part.

sorry if i offended anyone, i probably could have worded it better

I don't think you can word it in another way and not mean what you meant.

Basically, you're calling peopel stupid for not buying PS3. There are reasons beyond just price point and the Xbox is just more appealing in NA.

It wouldn't be fair if someone else tell you that you're stupid for buying a Sony TV and not a Samsung. That's the same idea. Accept that people have different preferences. Next thing you know, you'll be telling people how to live their lives.

360 is just the "it" console in the Americas at this point. I think a $199 PS3 (with actual advertising) would shift things for a while, but not enough to make any significant dent. It's EMEAA where the real advantage of the price cut will be felt for PS3, especially during the holidays.

Your giving the 360 itself too much credit here I think. If microsoft wants sales for the 360, they make it happen. It has never been the consumers choice in this regard. You buy ANY windows laptop and get a free 360!??? think about that one. Microsoft does not make all computers, they are literally giving these things away with computers that are sold simply because these comuters use windows. How are they not selling 2 or 300,000 a week in NA alone? Im serious.

They introduce Kinect and go ape shit with marketing, include it with consoles, market it more than anything. Cross promotions for xbox when you buy fast food, drink a pop, watch tv, buy a car, listen to the radio, brush your teeth. Why?

Because they have to.

Sony puts out games and drops the price... that is all. Microsoft wishes they could ease up in this regard.

The 360 is a space shuttle rocketing towards space, but without thousands of gallons of gas, (everything listed above), it would plummit back down to earth. This is nothing new, gotta love the timed exclusive dlc, the thought of which makes me laugh. Not an exclusive game, not a timed exclusive game, not exclusive dlc, but Yes, timed-exclusive-dlc for 30 days. They literally could not be doing more. to sell the Microsoft Xbox 360.

1 week of Microsoft stopping the BS, stopping with one crazy sale/deal/bundle after another, stopping with giving the 360 to poeple who buy computers, and the consoles sales would be unaltered by the power of the marketing machine.

Honestly in America where the 360 "sells" the most week after week, its sometimes hard to recognize that there is even an alternative. You gotta hand it to Microsoft as a company for having a solid business strategy. They wouldnt be anywhere close to where they are without it.

The IT console in America? Well I guess so, but we have to step back and think about what exactly that means.

You only get a 360 if you buy a $700 or greater laptop.

PS3 price cut... no hardware boost... no software boost... no GT5 boost (4,633 - down wow).

I expect adjustments soon.

The UNDERTRACKEDZ returned.
