Forums - Microsoft - MS: No price cut coming, blockbusters and bundles will take Xbox 360 to No.1

sounds about right

@ pro-Forza, anti-GT shameless FUD:
1) Some reviewers are just disappointed by GT5 actual high quality, but considered almost not up to the very long wait and even higher hype, users instead are satisfied
2) I seriously doubt Top Gear will advertise F4 for free
3) But all the good things, free or not that they be, won't be enough: EA stole all the Porsches and so both GT and Forza are d0med and will be dead in 3 years
4) Kinect is currently dead in EU, but I guess a good necromancer could make miracles, and who doesn't love a creepy undead device for Xmas?

Would be fairly impressive I think, if they were to take the number 1 spot in Europe with bundling alone. I say this because I firmly believe outside the UK, that the Playstation brand is significantly stronger and a recent price cut would suggest that the PS3 should dominate.

So, put me in the category of people who don't believe they'll get number 1 in Europe, but would be impressed if they stayed competitive with bundling alone.

HIGHLY doubt they'll be #1 in Europe.
How much of a lead does the PS3 have over the 360 this year in Europe? It a 1-million lead.......
The only way it can possible beat it the PS3 is with a price cut which is definitely happening sometime this year.

That's Q1, tallies up to 280 - 300k, so for Europe I doubt it's a million.

New bundle deals and one of its strongest Q4 line-ups will make Xbox 360 the best selling console in Europe, Microsoft told MCV.

The firm has dismissed the need to follow Nintendo and Sony by reducing Xbox 360’s price or developing new-look hardware. The platform holder says its line-up of games – including Gears of War 3, Forza 4 and Halo: Anniversary – will realise its dream of being No.1 across Europe

“We certainly think the line-up is strong, and we will continue to partner and work with key retailers across Europe to drive the right value for the right package for the right time,” Robin Burrowes, Xbox LIVE marketing manager for EMEA, told MCV.

“We have done that historically, where we do a number of bundles and deals. Those sort of bundles and deals will be part of how we get to that No.1 position.

“We are also pretty bullish about getting to that No.1 position on the strength of our blockbuster games, with things we are launching like Gears and Forza.“

And we are working really closely with a number of third-party publishers on games such as Modern Warfare 3, FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3. These big, big titles are coming in the next few months. There’s certainly going to be a lot of attention in that traditional space.

“Then we look at the second wave of Kinect titles, like Kinect Sports 2 and Dance Central 2.

“Selfishly from an Xbox Live point of view, a lot of those Kinect games have far better Xbox Live capabilities. It all gives us a strong sense of confidence that we can get to that No.1 position.”

Haha that’s funny, last time I checked they did introduce a new 360 model :P

This holiday will be interesting though. Can’t wait to see how things play out!

Interesting that 360 is that close to PS3 in EU over Q1 2011. 300k isnt alot. Considering PS3 is sold in more territoriess as well.

M$ havent had a price cut for ages now. he next cut should be phenominal. Should do good numbers as it will really hit mass market price. They have done well to not price cut react for the last 2 years. It's something we all should remeber when talking of sales for 360 over the last 2 years. PS3 has had 3 price cuts since the last 360 one. I say the 360 has done a great job selling without those price cuts.

However it did have the 360s release, which sparked sales interest last christmaas.

I say 36

"i say 36" what???

MS is actually shitting its pants, because Sony's plans to make PS3 more appealing to the Brits is the key to sell it a little better in America too, but without the risk of alienating the rest of EMEAA users, as instead the US-centric XBox offer does.

Could you remind me of the 3 PS3 price cuts since 360's?

in EU

360

8/07 £299€449  £249€349  £179€279

3/08 £259€369  £199€269, £159€199

9/08 £229 €299,  £169€239,  £129€179   arcade went back up to a around a yr after £159€199

7-8/10   £199€249  £149€179

PS3

10/08   £299€399

9/09   £285 €349  £249 €299

and are most recent one

still dont know if these comments about 360 not cutting this yr can be taken seriously they could just be saying that not to affect current sales, i would say if it doesnt get cut by end of sept it wont happen

i believe that they wont just more value added to the consoles ei. a few games bundled with the HW similar to what we had every holiday pre 360 slim
