This may have something to do with the HD DVD vs Blu-Ray war as if Microsoft can doom the Blu-Ray is may hurt the PS3 in the long run. Most predict that either Blu-Ray or HD DVD will be history in the next year or so.
As of now Blu-ray still be ahead of HD-DVD.

It seemed kind of cool until they brought up the HD. HD formats blow.
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Nothing official or new about this story.
Part of me hopes this is true but with a HD-DVD drive cost is likely to be too high. Plus I don't really want the HD-DVD drive.
Also as they are pushing downloadable content with their Xbox IPTV service this is direct competition to the HD format war so why include the HD drive.
the ps3 has had all that for over a year now too bad the xbox360 games STILL and ALWAYS will be on a dvd :)

HD formats really don't benefit gaming as Developers have been literally forced to uncompress as much as they can beyond the point of necesity just to fill up as much of the blu-Ray disc as they can so Sony has something to brag about. It's really not a necessity and considering the draw back of pre-loading games onto your system and the requirement of redundant data, it really doesn't add any convenience to the process.
The 360 uses DVD-9 which holds more than enough to handle a game this generation.
