Why would microsoft cut to $149? They're selling well in the U.S, and they discontinued the console in japan..

The only thing that would make sense is to cut in Europe

The only way microsoft would cut the price in the U.S, would be if a $249 PS3 is enough to become a threat as a competitive system stealing a significant amount of market share, that is unlikely though, it'll probably outsell the 360 by a significant amount globally in the short term, but microsoft is doing well at this price, and shouldn't cut yet

Who even are you replying to? No one mentioned anything about this in this thread...

But since you did bring it up, I will reply. Microsoft will cut, and quite frankly, can easily afford to cut $100 and still break even on the console. Expect a moderate few week bump to sales for the PS3 from this $50 cut and a huge surge in 360 sales when their cut comes along.

Why would they cut the price, when they're the #1 console by a landslide in the U,S, making a singificant amount of money, just because the PS3 might match or get close to the amount of consoles they sell in the U.S, doesn't mean it'll scare microsoft into cutting the price just so that they could distance themselves, and throw away potential revenue out of it's current price..

it doesn't make sense, and you can't say they will, you aren't microsoft, they MAY cut the price, but it wouldn't be wise to cut, and you can't say to expect a moderate bump either, you aren't a forecaster, nor are you a fortune teller.. the $50 cut might not even push the ps3, or it could do more than just a moderate push, or vice versa, it doesn't matter, it won't make sense for microsoft to cut, just because little XBOX fans want the 360 to beat the ps3

I didn't realize that I still had to put IMO after everything, but obviously that is just my prediction and is no guarantee it will happen.

As for your last "little" comment, it has nothing to do with little, big, fat, skinny, attractive, or ugly fans of a console, it has to do with Microsoft's claims of being #1 world wide this year, which they will need a price cut in order to do that.

....the PSP is 99 Euros and it's only coming out in Europe big difference from 99$. I would of been pissed if it was 99$ since I ordered my PSP last night for 120$ but even if I import it's going to cost 140$ without shipping charges so I'm happy still.

Former something....

so Kotaku is saying PSP thing is Europe only

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Since there seems to be two different discussions going on about the same topic, I'll just post this here..

I honestly don't see how Sony expects to meet their 15m projection. They only hit 14.3m last year. And their tracking below last year quite a bit.

I honestly don't see this $50 price cut increasing holiday sales much. At best, it'll match last year's holiday sales. But that won't even be enough to counter the YOY loss set by the beginning of the year. Even if holiday sales somehow countered the current YOY loss, that would only be 14.3m

I think Sony was over-confident in Move/3D/Exclusive-lineup and over-estimated. We'll see what happens I guess. I hope I'm wrong though.

Not that suprising really. I always find it hilarious when these price cut threads start though, people immediately say "Microsoft/Sony (delete as applicable) will cut in a few weeks!". I don't think this has ever happened, lol. As always, the rival console manufacturer will spend a long time analysing the situation and if they do cut, it will have been planned for a long time.

I was thinking the same. Many people say 'MS will wait for a few weeks after Sony price-cut and react accordingly', but that's not how the business works at all. MS, Sony and Ninty know very well when they are going to cut their prices much in advance, that's way they are able to give the yearly sales estimates, it is all planned at least a year in advance.

looking forward to seeing the price war over the next few days for the new price, not convinced £192 will be the lowest

True. businesses don't just base their decisions only on what their competitors do and then react accordingly. It does have an effect in some changes to their business plan, but yes fiscal plans are made before the beginning of the year. I have however thought ever since beginning of year that Sony would cut the price of their hardware close to the Fall, and then MS would also do the same. A price cut makes sense for both consoles snce it has been a couple/few years since the last ones. I think MS expected Sony to issue a price cut this year anyways, likewise MS was planning for price cuts around the fall this year. It just makes sense to me.

Leo back to his immature ways I see, ignore him. It's actually him that sounds like he's desperate for MS not to cut price and scupper Sony's plans.

Anyway, yes they're doing well in the US, but Sony are still marginally ahead WW so of course MS should cut price, they're in a better position TO cut price and they need it more than PS3, so if any company is stupid for cutting price it isn't Microsoft.

But IMO it isn't Sony either, both were/will be right to cut price, this gen is rapidly ending.

Sure, that's very possible.
