PS3 Prediction #1: Warner Bros. will go Blu-ray exclusive.
Rumors have been quite persistent about this major movie studio's upcoming HD plans. With Blu-ray consistently outpacing HD DVD sales, we believe that Warner Bros. will finally feel the need to choose one format over the other. Of course, Toshiba's more than willing to get its moneybags ready for HD DVD. The war will still continue through 2008.

PS3 Prediction #2: A new color for PS3 will be introduced.
Expect some sexy new colors for PS3, many of which won't appear in the US. Our European and Japanese friends will get special skinned systems for high profile games, like Metal Gear Solid. America may introduce a new premium bundle in White that includes an even larger hard drive and a hotly anticipated game.

PS3 Prediction #3: Video rental service will begin this year.
Sony will finally allow PS3 fans to download movies from the PS Store later this year. However, just like Xbox Live, the movies available will be rentals only and will require the PS3 to be signed into the PSN for playback. Sony won't want to cannibalize its own Blu-ray sales with fully downloadable movies. At the very least, Remote Play will be enhanced so that you will be able to stream these movies to the PSP.

PS3 Prediction #4: Expect more price drops.
PS3 finally dropped to $399. Expect it go down even further later this year, so that it can remain competitive against the Xbox 360.

PS3 Prediction #5: PS3 sales will get better, but won't be able to beat Xbox 360 in 2008.
In spite of a much better library of games in 2008, the PS3 will trail behind Microsoft's competing system. The PS3 will do stupendously in Europe and decently in Japan, but American gamers will remain hesitant about Sony's system. Momentum will certainly help PS3, and critics and analysts alike will predict even better things for 2009.

I think I can mostly agree with predictions except for the price "drops." I can only assume they will drop the price down once in the whole year. There's no way Sony would be able to drop it twice just like they did in 2007!

Anyone would like to add to any of these predictions?

Can we stop the crap about Sony's massively superior games lineup. It's certainly good, but its been shown in thread after thread that the Wii and especially the 360 are going to match it awesome title for awesome title in 2008.

Wow, what boring and incredibly safe predictions.

They might as well have gone all the way and said PS3 will beat the 360, it's a good chance. I think they just didn't want to sound like fanboys.

Those predictions aren't really interesting, or anything that hasn't been said before.I'm not sure if it's thread-worthy.

About prediction #4: Can sony really afford more price drops? If they keep dropping the price, Sony will have as much losses as Nintendo has profits.

Well, it is from ps3fanboy.com. On the other hand, I guess they didn't want to be too extreme like SDF.

Sony will be able to pull off maybe a $50 price drop next year, max. The reason I say this is that they had to sell off several Cell manufacturing plants, as well as consolidate several important departments, to facilitate the drops they did this year. If it didn't have other departments to lean on, SCE would go bankrupt if they chopped off a further $100-$150.

I agree with everything but #5. Sales are neck and neck already, but a "much better library of games" won't push the ps3 past the 360?

The PS3 is going to continue to sell at the same rate as the 360. Even with MGS4, we will see a console sale increase comparable to what Halo 3 did for the 360. That means, it won't overtake the 360, but it will slowly eat away at the market share %. So I agree with #5.

All-in-all, though, these predictions are weak.

I'd like to hear something along the lines of, "PS3's will start dying worldwide due to blue laser diode malfunctions." How's that for a prediction?
