I don't pay much attention to movies, so if you can provide some data, it would be much appreciated. I just can't see violent blockbusters outnumber comedies, animated movies etc. XBLA and PSN games can't be blockbusters and therefore don't matter when it comes to the public perception of the video games medium. For the average less informed person (and that's the one that matters when it comes to putting blame on video games, because they are much more numerous than the more informed ones and also more inclined to believe unfounded claims, simply because they don't know any better) those games do not exist, only the ones that get exposure through TV commercials and other general media. I hope you are able to grasp this basic concept that availability alone doesn't cut it. Nintendo will also release Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land during the holiday season. Your qualifier (home console only) makes no sense, because we are talking about the medium as a whole. Also, cartoon and fantasy violence can be found in comedy movies and animated ones, so Zelda's violence really is of a different kind than the one found in games like Call of Duty. But a handful of Nintendo blockbusters per year aren't enough to counteract the general direction the video games industry is taking anyway. |
"I just can't see violent blockbusters outnumber comedies, animated movies etc."
this explains it "I don't pay much attention to movies" but no i don't have data its just readily apparent for anyone who does
"Nintendo will also release Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D"
ok so 3 titles including the one where the guy goes around slashing monsters... both microsoft and sony are pushing more non-violent games over the holidays as i already mentioned i'll revise to exclude remakes and psn/xbl titles ok so just off the top of my head :
microsoft : kinect sports 2, dance central 2, forza 4, sesame street etc
sony : singstar back to the 80s, rachet and clank all 4 one, eyepet 2, the medievil move game etc
and thats just what i remember

At this point it's fairly obvious that you are not really interested in the discussion at hand, but merely look for opportunities to disagree with something that I said. I was trying to help you to understand why video games are continually blamed for crimes, that's all. But you make it into a console war thing even though I already said that what Nintendo does isn't of significance. Neither is what Microsoft and Sony do. |
well when you imply stuff like how microsoft and sony are only pushing violent games and nintendo is the only one doing something to change the trend, i'll come straight out and tell you i disagree and why...

I never implied that. I was talking about the industry as a whole and the game I mentioned the most was Call of Duty, because that happens to be the biggest violent title. Likewise, Nintendo on the whole is the best example for the opposite direction, because they don't really make anything that warrants an M rating or PEGI 16/18 and their games happen to take the top spots in sales for non-violent video games. |
"if it weren't for Nintendo, then the situation would look even worse"
nintendo isn't even releasing close to as many non-violent games as ms or sony seperately this holiday season
Was the cops name by any chance Francis McCreary?

Which once again comes down to the important difference between significance and availability. Microsoft and Sony may have more games, but Nintendo has without a doubt the more significant ones. Actually, Nintendo has more games than Microsoft and Sony, but there is no reason to list them all, because I only focus on the ones of significance. Why that is I have already explained in previous posts. |
"Nintendo has without a doubt the more significant ones."
that can't be argued they have higher sales afterall... and that comes down to consumer choice not necessarily the effort applied
"Nintendo has more games than Microsoft and Sony"
well as the company that was in gaming longer i wouldn't expect it to be any other way
