SON¥, out of sheer necessity will, sooner rather than later, end up having to make the PSN an experience on par with XBLA, if it wants its gaming divisions (SCE) to be profitable and self-reliant. They're just betting too much of their future in social networking not to succeed at that, and if that is to become a reality, I'm afraid we'll be seeing the introduction of a pay-for-play online experience. For everybody. With the numbers (read earning reports) that SON¥ has been putting out now, and what they have forcasted to put out in the short term, they just cannot afford to go the distance for free. PS fans would do themselves a favor by understanding that, overall, SON¥ is a business, and as such, it's main reason for being is procuring profit and the general welfare of its stockholders, not providing the hordes of fanboys with punchy arguments to brag about to the rest of us. That being said, good news for PSN users!

there are parts of this i agree with but multiplayer shouldn't be pay to play. there should be some other experiances worth having to pay for.

PSN nor XBL have anything worth paying a monthly, or yearly subcription fee for.

OT: street fighter and the heist look great.

Agreed. It was Microsofts propaganda that made many people think paying for online gaming is necessary. PSN games alone should be more than enough to cover server costs and license fees.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

That's pretty awesome

that is true....the cost of the game should cover the sever and online play service.

I'm looking forward for 3 titles on the list...can't wait to demo them or buy them...

What about the cost of developing the game? Who's going to front that?

then its unanimous. not sure wht they could offer but yea.

they make millions on 1 game....i'm sure some of that money can go to the developers of the game...

You'd be surprised to know that highly profitable games comprise a small percentage. Most games struggle to achieve high returns, and few companies are willing to embark upon such an endeavor just to cover the cost of production, let alone to fund PSN.

that is true too.....especially after the PSN hacking meltdown sony had this past few months...

Sadly, that's not true. It costs an insane amount of money for the servers and bandwitdth necessary for the PSN and the 70+ million user acounts (not unique users, but accounts). The main reason the "Networked and Devices" division was negative and so low the last few years despite the software and hardware sales of PS3 increasing, is because of the ridiculous network costs. PSN Plus is another attempt to make up those costs.
