Forums - Gaming - Android's UK Market Share Growing Rapidly May be Ahead of Ios

At any rate, Gartner finally released their smartphone data for Q2 2011. Android was up significantly. They now control 43% of smartphone sales, worldwide:

Over 48 million handsets were sold in Q2. Certainly no plateau.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Around the Network

not surprising. Apple needs a rival and i was hoping this would happen.

Here we go again...

I never suggested that worldwide Android marketshare had plateaued. I specifically referred to the US market. Scroll up if you don't believe me. That's the market where NPD says sales of handsets with Android have gone from 53% market share in Q4 2010, to 50% in Q1 2011, and now 52% in Q2 2011:

A 4% range in three quarters. That's margin of error territory, and it's pretty flat.

This was due to Samsung Galaxy S 2, while not launching in a single carrier in NA it has become Samsungs fastest selling phone world wide. Image what the numbers will be in a month when in launches across various US carriers. Galaxy S line has been incredibly popular. Hopefully I can get another Best Buy free friday deal too. :) even www.bgr.com (who is apple fanboy city) said the GalaxyS2 was by far the best hardware out yet.... granted they'll probably change tune next when i5 launches. lol

What I find most interesting about that chart is RIMs rise in YOY sales. More than Apple... odd.

Yea I remember when I bought my S2 it was pretty damn hot in the UK, it was selling much more than even the IPhone 4. Granted Iphone 4 is a bit old, but S2 was doing the best after release.

Plus just look at the S2, I've been using it for the past 2 months and everything about the phone is epic (OLED screen, connectivity, processors, interface etc etc etc). Worth every penny of my contract.

But yea, seeing how there are so many quality android dual core phones out now that are seriously worth the money, its only natural Android is gaining marketshare.
