Forums - Sony - What if GT5 had been released this week?

Tagged games:

it would likely score between 88-92 on metacritic/gamerankings.

they also fixed car damage, and i believe they fixed some shadow issues.
this game is a lot better than when it launched (which was still 87-90 game when relased, because of hype and long dev time it scored lower, and because reviewers seemed to forget it is a driving simulator and not an arcade-y racing game, like need for speed, PGR and to a much much lesser extent Forza)

also Performance Points are godsend, thank you sooo much PD for putting them in, but why not a launch???

I never got what all the complaining was about the menu's. GT5 has the most simple layout in any game ever. Not only is the menu simple but it looks and works great.

Definitely agree.

The main things I would still like to see are more premium cars and a REAL used car dealership where I can select any used car I want instead of having to choose from a random selection. Shit, it took six months before I was was able to buy a GNX.

yep, used car dealership is a mess.

also what i would like to see, is when you want to do a race, but you dont have a qualifing car in your garage. you shouldnt have to back out and go to a dealership, and try to remember which ones qualify, the game should let you go directly to a list of cars that qualify, then you can buy the from the A-spec race menu, instead of going to the main menu, clicking on dealership, then remember which cars count, then buy one. it should do that for you, and only show cars that work for the race

The menus were quite slow at first and some of the very useful shortcuts weren't there at the start.

For example upgrading car parts takes 4 clicks with a full second pause between each, that is a lot faster now. Also (not sure if it was there at the start but I hadn't noticed it yet) I had to remember what cars were allowed for a race, go to the car garage and find a matching car, then go all the way back to the race to find I choose the wrong one after all.

Tuning the volume of custom soundtracks was also a pain. Going all the way out of the game to the options, change volume, all the way back to start a race and find out the effects or the music is still too soft/loud.

But yes after you get used to it, have done all the button configurations, sound setup etc, know all the shortcuts, figure out the different online options, then it works great.

Btw did they patch yet that you can do an oil change or buy tires while in an online lobby?

Hell yeah! There were a few times where either I'd buy the wrong car or completely forget what I was supposed to buy and have to go all the way back to the event to check the requirements.
