Forums - Microsoft - Lets design the perfect controller for the next Xbox

Fix the D-Pad
Do not add more buttons
Give it a sexy cover/shell

Thats about it.

It's just that simple.

Without repeating myself from old threads. The 360 sticks need to be made better, they are very cheap and very short, make them abit longer and increase their range by removing some of that plastic around the sides. If they must keep the concave form they need to add some form of grip to them like the rough surface of the PS3 sticks.

The 360 sticks do have bumps in them and since they are concave and not convex like the PS3, they already offer superior grip. They do need to fix the reliability, though. After a few months of Halo Reach I have 2 controllers that have issues. One of the thumbsticks on either controller now has a deadzone and and causes in game turns in certain directions to go rather slowly.

Are they the Reach controllers? One of the controllers I have that came with the Reach Slim is messed up. The left bumper ost it's ability to spring back so you really have to mash and hold it to get it to work properly. It's a real pain in the ass and it happened not long after I got it.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

imho the best controler was the GC (had a horrible dpad too though).

anyways, NO to a numpad... just play your strat games on PC. All the 360 controler needs is a new D pad indeed, the rest is fine.

minor changes I would do are:
perhaps make L-R1 a little bigger (as in the finger catch them more easily)
add 2 buttons to have 3 in a row.

One was a Reach controller and the other was a normal Black controller. MS only has a 90 day warranty on accessories though so I couldn't get them fixed for free :(

360 controller with a better d-pad is perfect in my opinion.

Fix D-Pad, remove battery case (which gets in the way of fingers and spoils the otherwise nice curved of the control) and replace with internal charging batteries a'la the Dualshock.

Trackball looks interesting, too.

I'd also like slightly bigger bumpers for gamers other than FPS.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

One of the biggest reasons the 360 is my console of choice, is the controller. It sits perfectly in my hands and I can play for hours on end (as if I really have that much time) with no hand fatigue.

So outside of a better d-pad, I'd ask for NO changes whatsoever. Hell, I'd even take the same d-pad as long as nothing else changed either (especially if it's the new changeable d-pad, which is very nice).
