For news and reviews, I used to visit GameSpot back then (was videogames.com), and used to read GamePro and EGM magazines (I still have a box full of them). Now I mainly use N4G and VGChartz.
For cheats and walkthoughs, I use GameFaqs instead of CheatCC.
I still have my first issue of Game Players magazine from like 1988 or something (Ninja Gaiden was the game of the month.). Before that, I had some buyer's guide that pretty much listed a ton of Nes games available at the time with about a paragraph of info. Since that time, I subscribed to Gamepro (which was my favorite magazine until EGM came into its own) Electronic Gaming Monthly, Die Hard Game Fan, Ultra Game Players, The Official Playstation Magazine, PSM (UnOfficial Playstation Magazine--headed by current Nintendo Power Editor In Chief, Chris Slate--HE EVEN RESPONDED TO ONE OF MY LETTERS!) Incite, Nintendo Power, Game Informer, Official Xbox Magazine, and a ton of others that I can't even remember.
So basically, magazines. I didn't start looking to the internet for info until about 2007, to be honest. I used to go to the library and go online for codes for my Gameshark and Code Breaker peripherals but that was about it. I got the internet solely for my Xbox 360 and then decided to get a PC (and what a poor, slow, ugly piece of equipment that was).
Aside from that, there was word of mouth. Let me tell you, the playground was not a reliable source of accurate video game information. I should know. I made up most of the lies, myself!
I used nexgenwars (I know!) for a couple of months, then I think late 06 or early 07 I started lurking here.
Oh and I have about 40 copies of Official Xbox Magazine
Back in the 90's I used magazines such as GamesMaster, Nintendo Officail Magazine, N64/NGC and some Playstation magazine. I'm pretty sure I've got like over a 100 Nintendo Magazines. When I found out about the internet I started using the official Nintendo website. I stopped buying the magazines about 6 years ago.

never cared for any of the standard gaming outlets. before vgchartz i mostly had word-of-mouth from friends. i visited www.penny-arcade.com for a while too but only just before settling on vgchartz.
probably the playstation magazines back in the day,and before that nothing. If I sucked I just sucked. Back in the day it was common for me to get stuck on a game for months on end.
And to think..... I used nexgenwars to track console sales before finding out about vgchartz.
Current nexgenwars numbers:
Xbox 360: 32,500,000
ps3: 25,000,000
Wii: 53,500,000
For news, Gamepro & vgchartz
One thing I dislike about the internet age: I used to be a lot happier with video games before I had access to all of this info. I used to be the best gamer in the world before I saw these youtube gamers and record breaking clans. I could have fun with a shitty game before people (video game magazines included) told me how shitty they were. I bet I would be absolutely floored with current gen graphics if it wasn't for online graphic whores telling me that the Unreal Engine looked like shit or that this game has flat textures. Sometimes, I think ignorance is bliss.
