Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: “We lost our way” with latest Halo releases

Apparently, Peter Molyneux now speaks for the halo franchise aswell

The only misstep imo was ODST, all the other halo games are amazing.

Master Chief is certainly not the most interesting or best character from the Halo Franchise. Johnson/Cortana and The Arbiter are way more interesting. Anyone who hated Johhson?

To me Master Chief certainly does have a personality, but then I have read all of the books and dug deep into the extended universe of Halo so perhaps my view has been shaped by that. That being said I would much prefer they build his character more in the games from this point on rather than trying to make you feel as if you were actually him, I feel however that I may be in the increasing minority that truely cares about characterisation and narrative.

EDIT:

I don't see how people can't/don't like ODST and Reach, both games were great and told good stories had good characters and were well paced games with good gunplay. The only problem should be that ODST was full price (I got myself the limited edition, with the ODST controller, so it was a good value for me) and the fact the Halo: Recon was such an excellent name that the disappointement from when they renamed it still weighs on your mind.

it's funny I haven't touch any halo edition since the release of the new every time... and I got all the games.... halo wars included.... and the only character that I can clearly remember from the games are MC and Cortana..... I don't think it's about the MC character but about it's relationship with cortana, the rest of the world and the situation he ends up in..... he is right it is a mix between john wayne, and I'd add captain america, and a 1 man A team.... he could be mute the entire 3 first game that I would enjoy him more than the other... just because he stands out by his heroic actions and the fact that he is the last one of his kind (kind off)

I have read a couple of the books it does add to the character.... and honnestly it's the only books related to a game (and not the opposite) that I think are actually worth reading.... now I'd have to check with mass effect books to be certain :D

botom line yeah ODST and reach had maybe better characters by the script standards.... but not really worth remembering IMO in the history.....

I love how people compare MC to characters from games that are 30 years old.... or games that had 90% of CGI cut scenes..... the first one is as deep as the IQ of Paris Hilton and the second one has no excuse to not have depth when you have more screen time than james bond has.....

if you take halo verse and dig in to the BG MC probably has more depth than all of those characters...... but yeah you actually have to know how to read for that :D lol JK
