Any opinions on this?

The newly formed Pheu Thai party won with a significant majority, as was expected. Thahskin's popularity still seems to be huge, and his party returns to power after (from what I understand) the military deposed his party and put the Democrats in power.

One thing is for certain, their new PM may be the most attractive world leader:

Feel free to discuss the election and Thai politics here. I know most of us are from the west, so it may not be as huge as a European or American election, but its still fascinating to me, as Thailand is a cornerstone of ASEAN and is certainly one of the larger economies in the region.

I'm in "Wait and see" mode myself.

It will be interesting to see if the transition is smooth....

and how the transition effects their economy as the new government promises risk heavy inflation.

For example minimum wage is supposed to be raised between 40% and 90%.

That would greatly increase costs and cause inflation...

Honestly I'm not suprised. I think the coup was unjustified and that the riots last year could and should have been prevented. However I am not Thai and don't know all the issues but I hope that this government lasts longer then the last one. Honestly their are just way to many coups in Thailand its about time the military and ruling leaders in the country simply respect the democratically elected leader and allow the government to run until the next scheduled election.

Sometimes leaders are elected that people don't like, like President Obama and Bush who's approval ratings plummeted and have done stuff considered undemocratic and such. Yet you don't see the US Army holding a coup. I hope the Thai government goes coup free for a decade or so at least. Let democracy take its course!
