Forums - General - The Promote Your Thread...thread.

Have you ever been excited to discuss a topic, or spent a long time formatting/creating a thread only to have it go unnoticed with few or no replies? If you answered yes, then this is the thread for you!... If you answered no, somewhat ironically, what this thread is trying to prevent, will happen to this thread.

Yesterday I started a thread, wanting to discuss the sales potential of Super Pokemon Scramble for the 3DS in Japan. Now it wasn't a great thread, but I did spend a few minutes putting a chart together and was curious to see what people thought. I figured I would get at least a few replies, but I didn't get a single one. That has happened to me several times here on VGChartz/gamrconnect, when I feel like I have spent time creating an interesting thread, yet get no responses. It is kind of disheartening, and makes me less motivated to post. So this thread is an effort to prevent that from happening to people.

Here is what I am suggesting, when you have a unique thread that you want more people to participate in, you post it in here, and I'll add it to the original post. But, in order for your thread to be posted, you must comment in one of the posted threads, and provide a link to your comment. Then the thread you want to promote will be listed here as well.

For example, since this just started, and the only thread listed is mine, if the next person wants a thread added to this post they will have to comment in my thread, and post a comment in here with a link to that comment and a link to the thread they want to promote. The next person will then have two topics they can choose between for making their comment. And so on.

The goal of this thread will be to prevent topic creators from having threads go unnoticed, and to give readers a way to find some interesting threads they may have missed (more rules for this thread at bottom of post). This thread is not for promoting an endless number of generic threads, but for when a user has created a topic that they really want to discuss, or spent effort creating.

The only way this thread will be helpful is if there is a lot of participation so please join in.

Get your topic posted here by commenting in one of the above threads, then posting a link to your comment and the topic you want to promote in this thread!

Rules

  •  Must comment in one of the listed threads, then post in here with a link to your comment, and your thread you want to promote (this requirement will change to commenting in two threads if we get some participation).
  • User can have only one topic being promoted at a time.
  • Topic must be listed for two days (to prevent users for promoting a bunch of not special topics).
  • Topic will be taken down after a week of being listed (Don't want a topic to overstay its welcome).
  •           Will make exceptions for topics that are continuously updated.
  • Comment in thread must be meaninful (more than a few words) and show that you did actually read the topic, in order for the thread you want to promote to be listed.

this thread sucks...if you want to bump your thread then do so(a while after the last post). if you need to do it a bunch of times just let the thread die and accept your thread isnt any good.

i do not want a bunch of peoples horrible threads to be in my hot topic section just because you all feel the need to have someone pleasure your ego by keeping crappy threads alive.

What's ironic is this thread will also go by the wayside like the threads you want to keep alive.

But its definitely not a bad idea seeing as there are a good number of awesome threads that deserve more discussion.

LOL, so true

No offense I don't usually have that problem with my threads. Though I wish sometimes I did, like the recent poll about how powerful PS4 and Nex-Box should be, I didn't go high enough in the poll. I was embarrased and hoped the thread would die. But everyone went mad and the thread is doing amazing.

For some reason I think the worst I've ever done was at least two pages. It may be the topic's you are choosing or the quality of the thread, maybe you aren't being provative enough or maybe your too provocative. I dunno but this thread to promote threads seems alittle shameful to me.

If your thread fails as Mr.Bubbles said maybe bump it once, if it still fails just realize that the thread just wasn't what the readers wanted to discuss. Its nothing bad on you, just you picked a discussion that people didn't care about.

Let me give you a slight pointer, you made a great chart. But Pokemon Scramble is not a big game and nobody has huge expectations for it. Using Pokemon Scramble in the title and as the main topic of the thread probably contributed to its death. A good way you could have spun this thread and made it successful is to challenge and get people thinking.

A better title could have been "The downfall of Pokemon, will Scramble change the tides for 3DS" A brief fact I believe it was the tenth anniversary Nintendo Power Magazine that said not a single Pokemon game shifted less then a million units at that time. Then you could show the chart you made showing how many Pokemon titles today were hovering around 300k lifetime sales. You could then talk about everything you did in the article. But go on to talk about whether Pokemon Scramble could boost 3DS hardware sales in a way similiar to OoT. You could have then asked "Or will Scramble, scramble Nintendo's chance at dominance failing like so many other recent Pokemon games settling for mediocracy.

I bet if you had rephrased your topic like that and spun your article in a thought provoking more provocative manor you would have gotten at least a page or two of replies.

Don't worry I guess everyone has a few duds, I'm pretty sure if you go back far enough you'll find a dud or two of my own as well. Just think what do the readers and VGChartz users want to discuss. Is your thread going to entice conversation. Is it provactive and out of the box. If it is you have a good thread.

Heck I'll bet you right now, if you take my advice and re-spin your thread. It will get more hits then the one you have right now. Though re-posting threads is not really allowed to my knowledge. I guess just keep my advice in mind.

Here your thread may already be dead so no promises. But how about I try spinning it in a reply and we'll see what happens. Hopefully you'll get a few replies. But please this thread about promoting threads, its a waste of time and sorta like bumping. If everyone who rights threads people don't care about then bump those threads constantly the threads people do care about will get washed away. Its better if you let your thread die and go on to try and make a better thread.

*** See in less then an hour I almost doubled your views and got three unique posts, now imagine if you had titled the thread like I suggested, this thing would be on fire. Its all about presentation and your OP***

Wow I talk about how I don't think any of my threads have gotten less then two pages, and suddenly it happens. Two of my Gaming board threads are struggling big time. But I'll give them a day before I bump. Oh well also I didn't follow my own advice should have chosen more contriversial topics lol!
