I bought mine for the games. I didn't even get an HDTV until a month ago. Of course, now that I've seen BR, I can't go back to DVDs, so I am now actively using it's Blu-Ray capabilities. Well, not right now. It's broken. :(

maybe people are using it as a blu-ray player, but i don't think that they buy it as a blu-ray player.

I bought one for pretty much the same reason. I was impressed with my buddy's XBox 360 but when I looked to buy one for myself the PS3 had more features included out the box, chiefly the Blu-Ray player.
I bought mine for both I guess
50% for Gaming
50% for Blu-Ray movies
Me and my brother were going to go halfers on the 360, but then my dad got really interested in high-def movies, so I swayed that way and the 3 of us chipped in for the PS3.
So, I wouldn't have gotten it if it didn't have a blu-ray player, but I didn't get it ONLY for the blu-ray player. This is probaly the case for quite a few people.
Currently have 7 Games, and 13 Blu-ray movies.

Do you happen to need a new Best Friend? |
Friend levels are more than adequate. I'll keep you in mind if it ever comes up though.

Can someone not collect media and games? Some people spend many dollars on motor vehicles, some on collector items, or other hobbies, me, I like my home electronics and gaming... what is so unbelievable about that?
Why didn't I buy an actual BD Player? I couldn't find one below $399 that was in stock so, I thought gee, why get just a BD Player when I can get a BD player and a box that plays games...
I'm just curious how many others are thinking that way... Why buy BD Player when you can buy a PS3 that plays media and games for the same price?

it's obvious he probably got one or two PS3s with Sony's buy our HDTV and get a PS3 free deal. But stil it makes sense to have a blu-ray payer for each TV and the PS3 is the best Blu-ray payer out right now. |
I normally don't buy Sony. I've had a lot of bad luck with their stuff in the past. And no I didn't take advantage of the HDTV bundling deal because I have HDTV's throughout my place (and I'm not a Bravia fan). Really, I found the last few months annoying with having only one Blu Ray player with my PS3 on my largest screen. I like to watch movies a lot so I decided that I wanted to have Blu Ray player available on all my TVs... I tried to find cheap blu ray players and couldn't so I ended up buying PS3s instead. Just wondering how other people are thinking? Buying for Blu Ray or PS3 gaming? Or Both.
I got my ps3 for the total package. Games and movies never looked so good :)
I am geting a bit carried away though with the blu ray movies but it's just too tempting. Here in Australia JB HIFI has a deal where you buy 2 BD movies and yo get a 3rd one for free.
buying it for the blu-ray only is a little pricey imo, besides, I think a lot of people(myself included) are just going to sit back and let this format war sort itself out over the next 4-5 years and hop on when the players and movies are cheap with whichever format wins.
