Buy a copy of Double Fine's brilliant Psychonauts and all publishing proceeds will now go to Tim Schafer's development studio.

Majesco's rights to the psychic powered platformer have lapsed, according to a tweet by Double Fine programmer Anna Kipnis:

"Omg Double Fine is now the sole publisher of Psychonauts!! If you buy it now (on Steam, for instance), the proceeds go to us!"

The Schafer led outfit has always owned the game's intellectual property - including the possibility of any future Psychonauts titles (yes, please).

But previously a portion of the money you paid went to Majesco, who headed up the game's original publishing duties.

An upcoming statement from Double Fine is expected to confirm the news. "Hang on guys! Don't rush out to buy Psychonauts just yet. Jumped the gun. Exciting DF Official Announcement coming!!", Kipnislater added.

Psychonauts was released in 2005 but failed to find commericial success despite considerable critical acclaim - including a glowing 9/10 Eurogamer review.

It's still readily available via Steam and on the Xbox 360 Marketplace as an Xbox Original.

Good for them. Double Fine is so awesome I don't even know what to say about it. Hopefully this will get Psychonauts some much-deserved attention and make them some money.
