I completely forgot about Valkyrie Drive. This year has really turned itself around. I honestly thought this was the year the vita dies in the west followed by its slow death next year in japan (remember all the doom when indies started cancelling vita versions :p ). Glad to be proven wrong though.
Top June sellers
Vita
1 GOD EATER: Resurrection
2 Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
3 XCOM: Enemy Unknown Plus
4 Adventures of Mana
5 Tales of Hearts R
6 Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 Plus
7 Steins;Gate
8 Soul Sacrifice Delta
9 Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma
10 Child of Light
I'm happy for these games, especially for new releases since I imagine some of the other titles being there was due to sales.

Looking at that list, anyone should be oblivious or blind not to see that 2016 has been one of the best years in Vita gaming (localizations wise).
I already played GE on PSP so i'm just gonna wait for GE2 to be released.

You know, I thought the same and was saying exactly the same - that 2016 was going out with a bang, but it'd be the last year of proper support for Vita. Yet looking to 2017 we've already got Caligula & Tokyo Xanadu confirmed, alongside smaller stuff like Genso Wanderer & the otome games, so things are really looking up for yet another year.
I just hope the indies catch up. The amount of cancellations this year has been disheartening.
Yeah, I was bummed by one or 2 of the games cancelled but all in all I wasn't too bothered by it.
This is my opinion but I think Sony used to ask Devs for Ps4/vita versions of their games and maybe gave them some incentives in return. Now that Sony doesn't give 2 fucks about the vita, the remaining vita indie developers are who were planning vita versions or were convinced by vita fans to do one.
It's a handheld sustained by cheer begging.

That Moonhunters response though...not that I was going to buy it personally, as I can't stand that artstyle...we've gotten a few articles about indies selling good-great and this guy is coming out and saying the audience is dwindling? Did I miss something in the last few days? Lol. Sounds as out of touch as the naysayers can be. Shovel Knight was, for example, extrapolated out to have sold roughly 88,000 copies on Vita, just a smidge below the Xbox One version. Do other developers not pay attention to the success stories out there or what? I don't get what being overly negative gets you. :/
To add insult to injury on the indies front - Dex, a really cool looking 2D open-world RPG, which has been advertised as coming to Vita since September 2015, is now only "under consideration" for Vita:
Guys on twitter are kicking up a storm about it, lol.

lol yeah. I've actually watched all of the movies you mentioned ^^ [plus stuff like Kara no Kyoukai (I really like this series) movies and Redline which was entertaining ] . Everytime I see a new anime movie announcment, I usually bookmark it. I just really love their animation and despite liking The girl who lept through time, wolf children etc.. none of them compared to even the older Ghibli movies (Like Princess Mononoke still looks amazing in my eyes ). I also love their music and the sense of wonder their fantasies have. Hopefully Nino no Kuni 2 delivers. Still waiting for the final Evangelion movie btw :p |
Yeah, watched Kara no Kyoukai series and Redline, this one is anothe who is lttle known despite being so good... And yeah, GHIBLI is the best, in my house my little brother and nieces allways watch "Ponyo" and others from time on time... those movies never get old.
BTW two anime series based movies that are pretty good: Kyoukai no kanata and Haruhi Suzumiya no Shoushitsu. You have to wacth the original series, but are great addition for fans of the originals. In that sense these are the best Series follow up movies I have watched. Evangelions are just OK, expecting to watch them, but I can wait relaxed.
About Vita doing better than expected on software annoucnment, yeah, I thought the same. Japan still have a nice threading of releases from now till next year, and the same for the west. PlayStation devices allways excede the normal life cycle with software releases until two or tree years of a replacement, but as Vita doesn't have a succesor, nor 3DS either.. the only problem could be Developers focusing on mobiles and browser games more... but even that bubble seems a little deflated latelly.
My thoughts on the whole indie thing:

You're the second person I've seen cite localized games as a sign that Vita has a userbase and is continuing to do well, and while that's true for those types of games, I'm not sure it translates across well to all indies. After all, WiiU sells lots of Nintendo first-party software but it doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a decent environment for every indie.
Unless there's a genre-match (which there actually is for Moon Hunters, since it's an action-rpg) then you are kinda rolling the dice with releasing on Vita.
Except I don't think that's true, because like I mentioned, we've gotten data of other indies that have done well on Vita. Everything from Mike Bithell tweeting about unexpected Vita support for Volume; Dan Adelman saying he was happy with Axiom Verge sales on Vita; Jeff Minter pointing out how much more profitable Vita development was for him than iOS; Brian Provinciano saying how Vita is an incredibly healthy market for him; Shovel Knight selling pretty much as well on Vita as XB1 etc.
Obviously there's a massive mish-mash of genres, project sizes and budgets in that list and it's not representative of the entire indie market on Vita. But what I think it does show is this - if you create a good indie game; work on optimizing your Vita port so it runs well and you engage with the Vita community about your product, then you're more than rewarded with sales. It might not be breaking sales records like PS4 or whatever else it's doing, but the core is there and it's more than capable of making your game profitable.
And I just wish more developers saw that.
It's stupid, basically
