Destiny of Spirits on PS Vita: The World Unites in Battle

+ Posted by Kumi Yuasa // Producer, SCEA

Hello PlayStation.Blog readers! In our last blog post, we provided an overview of Destiny of Spirits, a PS Vita game launching this year. Today, we’re back to share more details about its social aspects.

Destiny of Spirits is a free-to-play, location-based, social strategy game. Players from around the world work cooperatively in turn-based, RPG style action to battle fierce Chaos spirits. The goal? Purify and save the world.

In Destiny of Spirits, friends will make your journey easier. Each day, The Destiny Engine — which is based on Western and Eastern astrology — will lead you to other players that the engine selects as compatible, based on a number of factors including birthday, name, and location. You’ll greet each day with new suggestions for allies across the world, and the more friends you have, the more benefits you can gain! The gameplay really opens up once you have friends. And working together with people across the world will affect how you strategically interact with Destiny of Spirits.

Trading Spirits

Spirits are unique to certain geographical locations around the globe. However, you can trade spirits with friends to grow and diversify your spirit collection, so the more friends you have increases the potential to gain more spirits — even those spirits you can’t obtain in your region. The distance between you and your friend on the map determines how long it will take to complete the trade.

Renting Spirits

By renting spirits, you can borrow a friend’s spirit to join you in battle. Borrow the right spirit and gain from its unique “supporter skills,” which include important buffs like damage modifiers. Renting spirits costs Destiny Points, but it can be the difference between victory and defeat!

Destiny Strike

During battle, a friend can trigger a “Destiny Strike,” a support attack for when you need it most. As you can see in the image below, a red dot will appear during battle to signal the Destiny Strike, which may be the final attack you need to take down a formidable opponent. The more friends you have, the better chance of it triggering. Do you see a pattern emerging? With Destiny of Spirits, working collaboratively with gamers around the globe will not only enhance the overall experience, but help you succeed in battle.

There’s a lot more to come from the Destiny of Spirits universe, so check back for more updates soon!

The fuck did I just watch?

In theory, the couple on the beach was cybering in the beach level and the other guys showed up to fight monsters and ruined the moment (at the command of that Hunting boss with the helmet). It was a parody of that with real life. It was funny, but extremely silly.

News about zone of the enders HD on vita ?

Shhh, I'm wainting for this but I never touched one zone of the ender. Are they good games ?

Yeah, I'm interested, but I hope that by then SONY expand the friend list, because it seems that it will be like Toro's Friend App where you have to add new friends to unlock new stages/locations and even the goal of the game is to get 99 friends for Toro, I already have my friendlist full and I not all have Vita or the app so i don't want to delete friends to add news.. is just annoying, and that's why I deleted the App until SONY expand the friendlist, something that have been requested since a long time!

the fisrt is a very good game... the Second is just AWESOME!.. is a Hack'n'slash-mech-beathem'up game... pretty good and my favorite game of all time (personal opinion don't want a discussion about it)... It just feel so great to control Jehuty, the story is pretty good, have a AWESOME soundtrack (with the people behind Ghost in the Shell movie soundtrack, look for even if you don't intent to buy the game) and some great Boss battles!

I haven't bougth the PS3's version because i want it on vita and because some Framerate issues that will be fixed in a update this monnth, I just hope vitas version includes the multiplayer and expand it to 4, 6 or more players and add online battles, it have a lot of potential in portables because You don't to split the screen like on PS2...

I really enjoyed the first one, it was something very different on the early PS2 days and way above anything that had been on previous systems.

I hear the second one was even better, but I never got around to playing it. I am disappointed the Vita ver went MIA :(

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Ok mikeRox and Mugen, so they're good game. I believe you. I've just see some video and the artistic direction seems mad fine. I'm really tired of waiting for this one. I think we need to harass Kojima on twitter.

So what do you have in wainting state about ps2 great ports ?

Zone of the enders HD
Ratchet and clank HD
Sly cooper HD

God of war HD is coming, too bad I do not like GOW but that great for people who like those games.

Any other ps2 great ports you'll add to this list ?

Oh oh I know, Dragon quest VIII. This game was sexy on ps2 and would look even sexier on vita ^^

I was thinking about Shadow of the colossus for vita, but that would be a wrong move. This is a game fitted for big TV screen, not the vita. That would just be waste.

For me, I want a Burnout Trilogy (or Quadrilogy if they included Revenge as well) that'd be the best game ever for me on Vita.

I'd love like a "off beat"/chill out collection with the games like Fantavision.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I have a sub question to ask. I suscribed to the EU ps store on my vita. I've downloaded many games. What will happen if I suscribe on the united state ps store ? Will I be able to download us ps store games on my vita ?
