Forums - General - The Iowa Caucases: What do you think?

The best ticket would be McCain/Obama, or Clinton/McCain. Too bad that kind of craziness can't happen. It would be nice if we elected the President and Vice-President on separate votes, as the Constitution originally stated.

Glad Obama took IOWA and also glad Ron Paul got to 10%. Hopefully in NH he gets to 20%.

I would luv to see Obama vs Paul election.

The constitution as originally written did not have a separate vote for VP - the top vote getter got President, runner up got VP. This was also written at a time when it was believed (hoped) we would not have political parties, a notion that didn't survive the Washington administration.

Our 3rd election resulted in a VP (Jefferson) who actively worked to undermine the policies of the President (Adams) because they were from separate parties and had different views on where the country should go (which is why the split party tickets you propose would be unworkable).  Thankfully this practice stopped, else we might have started to see assassination as a more frequent method to grab power.

Our 4th election was even worse, as Jefferson ran with Burr, and both got the same number of electoral votes, making it unclear who should be VP (it was always intended to be Burr, but he tried to steal the vote anyway). It was this that led to the 11th Ammendment, making the VP a separate election.

1st of all a successful poll in the middle east would be very hard. 2nd there is a very huge uprising building in Iran against there own government. There have been huge protest by college students. What did we really do in Afghanistan before 9/11. I know we were involved but we had no huge actions. We have always been involved in the world but the main reason for hatred towards America comes from propaganda. It comes down to 2 views. Do you think America is good and has good attentions? I do. I have also talked to men serving in Iraq and they told me that we are doing good and alot of the Iraqies want to help us but fear for their lives.

Yeah there is a movement agains the Iranian government, but not in support of the US, we created an area of instability in Afghanistan rather than working to set up a viable government, this led to the Taliban rise. I think America is a country with no actual good or bad nature, it just is, it acts in its best interest, and its best interest is in being cooperative and non-arrogant, we have supported the most vile dictators when its suited us, so we aren't good or evil, we just are.

For the Cold War. You give Reagan not enough credit. We had talks with Russia but they all ended with Nixon. Reagan was huge on being the biggest and the strongest nation. He believed in the Idea to stop a nuclear war that you must have enough nukes that both sides knows it wont happen. Before Reagan we had no Rockets long enough to hit all of Russia. We had some in Alaska but it wouldnt of gone far enough. We would of had to rely on Planes to deliver them. Russia had no real way to stirke at us except on the west coast and for a while from Cuba. Reagan was the one that made sure if It borke out that we would obliterate them. He and the Soviets knew they could never began the war for it would destroy humanity but Reagan still played it safe. If it ever broke out it was gonna be who could obliterate who the fastest. The collapse of the USSR came for a few reasons. The biggest being econnomic decline which meant they couldnt compete with us anymore. Especially when we had Reagan making us more powerful than we had ever been before.

No there were negotiations during Carter administration as well.

No we wouldn't have obliterated them, we would have obliterated everyone. You forget they had long range bombers as well as ICBMs, as well as sub based nukes, they could have easily hit most of the US, just as we could hit most of Russia, and the fallout would have killed everyone else off.

Reagan didn't make us more powerful, he just set up the current looming fiscal problems, basically he borrowed against today, now we are facing fiscal problems thaks to the actions back then

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

From what I hear on CNN nad Fox the economy is currently doing fine and some believe that Clinton economy was so good due to Reagonomics working as it would of needed to take time to have an affect.

Now I dont believe in Reagonomics but that is what some believe.

Anyways we got on the topic of Reagan due to negotiations. Are you telling me it is in better interest of the US to negotiate on a equal footing rather than with a advantage? Are you saying the USA shouldnt fight to remain #1. I am proud to be an American and I am proud America is the only Super Power. If you think that is arrogant that is your problem. There has always been a Nation on top and they are always the most hated. America could do all this great stuff but the fact we are #1 make people hate us. Look at British Empire or Rome empire.

Economy isn't doing fine, currently the debt is expanding, people are losing equity in their homes, consumer confidence is down, Social security, Medicare and Medicaid are set to become monstrous drains on the economy, the stock market is going to fall in a few years when the elderly start retiring and cashing in their retirement funds. And our prescense overseas, especially Iraq is a financial drain.

No the Clinton Economy had one big benefit, it allowed us to balance the budget, then Bush threw it away.

There was no advantage, that is where you are misunderstanding, no the view of US arrogance is the US's problem and the reason we are facing big problems in the future, no being number one doesn't make you hated, your actions make you hated, the Brits and romans were imperialists who subjugated other people, that is why they were hated.

Give me a #1 nation that hasn't interfered in other nations when its shouldn't have.

Unemployment rate is on the rise

Debt is still expanding, that's like saying the Wii sin't increasing its lead over the PS3 as, much, its still increasing and once the elderly start retiring it'll go up faster. our economy isn't ok, those who say it is are ignoring the facts.

Oil will never dry up, just get more expensive

??  Are you serious??

Oil will eventualy be gone.  Sure there may always be some left but not enough to use as fuel anymore.

No there will still be some, even enough to use as fuel, however by the dictates of Supply and demand, the cost of the remaining fuel will be too much for anyone to afford
