Forums - Gaming - are leaks really a good thing?

With all of these leaks and rumors before E3,is it safe 2 say that a game company keeping a secrect from the public is a thing of the past. The new nintendo console is one example of a leak that got out to the gaming community. Most of the time at E3,I pretty much know what there going to announce. Would'nt it be nice to be surprised every once in awhile. Do you think Sony, nintendo and Microsoft leak these things on purpose to build hype? I'll watch E3,but I don't expect to be surprised bye anything. So,what do you guys think?

Around the Network

Leaks are fun because if they are true and they blow away expectations, then hype commences earlier and it spreads Word of mouth. Now, there are other times when leaks can spoil a product. Lets assume that the next Nintendo system is weaker than everyone had thought, and Bam it gets leaked, everyone hates it, negative hype train commences.

well some leaks are unavoidable such as a new console being announced. I mean hell we knew next ds was coming last year and that it was supposed to be glasses free 3d, yet did it NOT blow us away.

but on other hand GAMES, especially new EARLY build games are totally ruined. I mean if we get leaked early that GTA5 is coming to say multiplat then is it really exciting at all when that gets announced at e3? If it is playable or has some gameplay shown, then that is differnet but a small trailer or worse just a title is bull and yawn worthy.

there have been some amazing games that have been announced at e3 that we learned before hand and they were ruined by that leak.

RUINED HOW you say. Well ruined in sense of WHO WON E3. When you start listing why someone won E3 its usually by big surprises and awesome stuff shown. If something is leaked and doesn't do more than just essentially announce it, then that gets removed from the list and lowers that consoles WINNING chances.

For example lets say Kingdom hearts 3 is leaked to be on ps3 exlusive a few days ago. The forums would be going ape shit for a few days and by the time e3 comes it would be old news. So unless some awesome trailer/gameplay is shown or release date SOON or playable or something besides a teaser and a title it wouldn't be exciting at all in teh conference to hear something already known

well i dont like leaks and its hard on the internet now days to avoid leaks when you hop onto any gaming site looking for the latest reviews and non leaked news to find out that x has been leaked and grand surprise set up by the publisher and the hard work of the pr and marketing departments in making an really interesting reveal all down the drain.

but gaming press and sites are highly competitive and they want those leaks to drive hits and being the internet you can either guess and hope you are right and there are no consequences or you can get it out of an employee who cant wait anymore with the constant hassle of NDA's.

But then again i hope that sony can throw some surprises for the press conference tomorrow. An we still know little about project cafe

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

E3 leaks IMO ruin the fun of E3 conferences. I like to be surprised.
