Forums - Sony - NGP specs downgraded, out in Japan this year?

Sony finally makes a smart move that I can defend. Cheers!

Makes sense and a smart move.

This same move is why I expect NeXtBox and PS4 to not be very much more powerful than Nintendo's upcoming machine. They learned their lesson from this gen and will focus on keeping a closer price while still being slightly more powerful.

This of course helps Nintendo too as they will no longer be robbed of 3rd party support as devs push their games accross all platforms to spread the costs per item.

win win scenario.

If they don't go much more powerful then the cafe then nobody will buy the xbox or ps4.  Anything less then top of the line PC graphics right now is unacceptable.

Nope. Price is more important than graphics.

Sony didn't specify the amount of RAM...but they did show us a demo of Uncharted.  I can't imagine it looking the same with half the ram now.

When there is no other option people will take what they are offered.  Graphics will still be great, and it's not like everyone is gonna move to p.c. because the specs aren't "hardcore" enough.

The 3DS apparently has 128mb of ram, I guess the graphical difference won't be as big as DS vs PSP this gen? Anyways I can see a lot of fans being upset about this but it's for the best right?

Sony customers have got to stop expecting so much from this company, they're just not as big as they once were.

Going cheaper is the smartest move, and its proof (finally) that they're learning from their mistakes.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

If it only the internal memory scaled back, that looks like it is in par with the PS3, considering the size of the screen.

noooo don't downgrade the ram... i am okay with no internal memory but 256MB ram is too looooooooooow =(

While some techies here might disagree, this is a smart move by Sony. Few people care about horsepower, particularly in a handheld. Yet many care about price.
