Damn it.  512 MB was already gimped as hell.  I thought that the minimum woudl have been 1 GB.  Would have bought it a launch, now it seems likely that I won't buy it at all.

Seriously? Please tell me you are joking. Please!

Why would you think that?   Why would I buy outdated tech?  Its just annoying.  I bought a launch PSP.  I like the NGP but given other options, and especially given probable cell phone like evolution in the tablet space, why settle for such limitations?

First of all Sony has never reveiled the amount of ram the NGP came with, there were rumors it would come with 512mb, but as a rumor. The only answer Sony has ever given was it was more than the PSP and in line with the PS3. The PS3 has 256mb, which means if true, the NGP would have the same amount as its big brother. The NGP is keepig its Vram of 128mb is which is unheard of in portable graphics. Now, relax, I think the NGP always had the 256mb anyway, do you honestly believe Sony is going to make such a change when this thing already has games being produced for it and coming in later this year.

I don't care whether you buy it or not, but if you're comparing handheld consoles to smartphones/tablets, let me remind you that the OS and other applications create a HUGE overhead for those devices, not to mention optimization for a single hardware in handhelds' case

Two machines have exactly the same specs technically, the pure gaming machine will always outperform the one with the OS by a GREAT margin

This.  Sony wouldn't make any critical change this late in the game, some of the software might be damn near completion.  Can't be that big of a deal.

Sony just give me BC, thats all I need to buy this first day I want to see what Sony will bring to the table in games yet I'm unable to convince myself on getting both a psp and NGP, right now PSP is winning by alot in my book...

Former something....

Makes sense and a smart move.

This same move is why I expect NeXtBox and PS4 to not be very much more powerful than Nintendo's upcoming machine. They learned their lesson from this gen and will focus on keeping a closer price while still being slightly more powerful.

This of course helps Nintendo too as they will no longer be robbed of 3rd party support as devs push their games accross all platforms to spread the costs per item.

win win scenario.

Never.decrease.ram.

The only thing I could believe in this rumor is that they removed the included memory for saves and installs to favor memory cards.  When it comes to the RAM, I highly doubt it, as it would be affecting the games that were already far in their development process.  If anything, I think this rumor may be referring to the specs that were touted early in the development of the system, not those from what we've seen running when they unveiled it to the mass.

If they don't go much more powerful then the cafe then nobody will buy the xbox or ps4.  Anything less then top of the line PC graphics right now is unacceptable.
