Forums - Sony - Capcom Expects PS3 to Be Biggest Platform This Year!

Capcom will be supporting all the major platforms this year. But it's expecting particularly strong results from one platform.

The company shared details on its sales expectations for the current fiscal year today. It expects to sell 18 million units of software across 55 titles total. This would be a drop from last year's 20.5 million units across 53 titles.

It looks like Capcom has big plans for the PS3, as it expects the system to sell 8 million units across 16 titles. This is far beyond the Xbox 360, from which it forecasts 4.7 million units across 14 titles.

The full chart, with last year's totals in parentheses, looks like this:

  • PS3: 16 titles, 8 million units (11 / 6.2 million)
  • X360: 14 titles, 4.7 million units (11 / 4.2 million)
  • DS/3DS: 9 titles, 2.4 million units (11 / 1.7 million)
  • PSP: 11 titles, 2.2 million units (11 / 6.2 million)
  • PC/Other: 3 titles, 500,000 units (3 / 500,000)
  • Wii: 2 titles, 200,000 units (5 / 1.4 million)

14 titles for ps3 and 12 are for xbox. One is monster hunter and the other is?

Capcom games have no history of outselling the 360 versions by that much on the PS3 so I can't help but wonder why they feel there will be such a big difference.

That being said the PS3 does have one hell of a lineup and could very well have the best year.  We'll just have to wait and see.

I wonder if they have another original MH ready for release for the ps3! that would totally make sense with these expectations... MH4 ps3! with a ps3 price cut...BOOM!

Its gotta be something like that because like I said historically Capcom games have very close sales on both platforms.  If they honestly expect the PS3 to push them that much software they have to have some kind of exlusive or something in development because otherwise this just makes no sense.

yeah, I can't imagine MH3P HD selling THAT much either and without MH can't think of another franchise of theirs that sells that big. Maybe MH3P HD with connectivity between psp and ps3 was to test the water so to speak? (and to make a quick easy buck while at it) and make MH4 ps3/NGP? 0_0 would be HUGE!
