Dear all,

I am now officially a three console owner. My local Supermarket had a discount offer on the PS3 160GB at 195 GBP and I decided to take the plunge.

However I came home plug in and attempt to create a user account and everything is going haywire.

Now I know that the PSN has been down but is it still down in the UK ? I had heard all was back up and running.

I cannot create an account. Its very frustrating and NO HELP from SONY.

What do you mean by haywire?

Sony said they would be restoring PSN services in phases. They probably haven't restored the ability to create new accounts yet.

What does it say when you try to make an account?

I have tried to create an account and it goes fine until it asks for a unique username.

It just comes back and says cannot create an account with that username.

I have also tried to create an account from the Whats New Icon and that fails after the DOB request with the Undergoing Maintenace error.

Probably just picked a poor time to buy a PS3 looks like I get to endure the outage but wont get any freebies.

Sony Customer Support is bloody awful..Basically gave up and came here !

They are experiencing a very high volume of traffic on the network, just try again in a couple hours. They have posted on their blog to please be patient.

Wait, Do new users even get the free stuff also ?

Don't think so.  I think you had to have an account setup before the 17th or whenever it went down.

OP - I believe that PSN is only back up for existing accounts to play online.  A lot of elements of creating and account seem to be down - probably because that stuff is linked to the store somewhat which is still down.

Sony says the whole thing will be up by 31st so being pessimistic you might have to wait until then.

Their helplines, etc. must be swamped right now so I wouldn't bother with that for the moment.  Keep and eye on their website/blog and watch the net for news regarding what services are up.

So far as I know you can create a PSN account at a later date and sync all trophies, etc. as normal at that point.

Guess you're going to be stuck with offline/SP for a bit.

I'd imagine this will be a priority as Sony won't want lots of upset new owners so I wouldn't be surprised if creating accounts comes back before the 31st.

Sucks to be me I guess. Seems a little unfair that I get to share the pain but cannot partake of the cure but I guess I bought with knowledge so I'll have to take it on the chin.

First impressions are that the console is a little beauty.

It may be small but it gets pretty toasty hot. On the plus side I wont need to buy that room heater this winter I'll just sit near the vents and game on.

Im sure PSN will add to the fun once fixed.
