oh poor boy thats why i always check if its in before i buy it

I didn't think that's allowed...opening a box before you've bought it...

No most stores will actually allow you to look in a box of larger items and the ones that won't will actually check for you if you go to C.S. and ask them too check just to be sure. They'll only really do this on larger purchases and tend to drag their feet when you ask them though... You just can't go pulling everything out of the box..

eb games are always slack with checking returns.

i returned about 10 ps2 games a few months ago, and they didnt even open the boxes to check if there were discs inside.

unfortunately for me, the discs were in there so i didnt get away with some free money :( :P

I believe it was an EB employee that stole the console and repackaged the phone book. Its obviously the case. It was not a returned console. It was a stolen one that some employee thought they would get away with stealing. Hopefully the guy gets jail time.

So was that this story?

There's a picture on the page with a guy holding a phone book and a ps3 box on the floor, but I'm not sure if that's the guy who it happened to.

It looks like it was resolved though. This was at the end:

"Naturally, his parents weren't quite so amused; for one thing, it was their $500 that got dropped, and they had to wait until Wednesday morning to take it up with the retailer from which the system was purchased, where according to a spokesperson for the store involved, the matter has since been resolved."

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

I wonder if Sony could trace that PS3 if the guy who stole it ever takes it online. Screwing with a kid's Christmas is one of the worst things you could possibly do...........

In an unrelated story, my brother used to rent NES games from this local Video store, and switch the label with games we no longer wanted to play. More than once, we'd hear stories about kids who rented game-x, and wound up with game-y. We'd giggle like little girls about thar. Now, he's a minister in Arkansas, and I'm a cop in Georgia. Go figure.
